Coach’s comments: The Eagles finished their regular season with a 4-1 win over the Wolverines of White River Valley. The Eagles were led by senior Aidan Burt and junior Josh Miller as they won their respective matches easily. Josh lost the first three games of his match but came back to win 12 of the next 13 games to win his match. Aidan started off his match with a powerful overhead and things just seemed to click as he cruised to a big win. The No. 1 doubles team of Noah Cochran and Spencer took a few games to get acclimated, but then found the doubles magic that they are capable of and won the next 10 of 12 games. Our fourth point came from the No. 2 doubles team of senior John Oliver playing in his last match of his high school career and junior Austen Deckard who finished with flourish after a well-fought first set. The last match of the evening came down to senior Nolan Patterson playing at No. 1 singles. This match was a slugfest as each player had to endure the changes in momentum. In the end, Conner Banning won a third-set super tie-break at 12-10. It has been a long time since we have a three-tie-break match. The size of the visiting Wolverines limited the amount of JV matches. Both freshman Jack Sichting and Sophomore Daylen Dees were winners. This ends the regular season for roughly half of the Eagles, as we travel on to the sectionals with a date to play the overwhelming and ranked Columbus North Bulldogs. No matter the outcome of our match with them, I fully expect this Eagles team to compete, and most of all, display the sportsmanship that is expected of all Brown County tennis players. This has been one of my favorite seasons of all time. It has been a true honor and pleasure to coach this outstanding group of young men. I look forward to not only what the future holds for this group of seniors, but also our returning and future players.
