Letter: Stealing political signs goes against freedom of speech

To the editor:

I have lived in Brown County all my life — 65 years — except the years I spent in the Air Force. This is the first time I have submitted a letter to the editor.

This year I decided to exercise my right to freedom of speech and have been shocked by the response. The following is the “readers digest” version of the story.

For the first time I decided to show my support for a political candidate. The name of the candidate does not matter for this story.

I put a sign for this person at the end of my driveway so that it could be seen when traffic drove by. Within a week the sign was torn down and thrown in the weeds. After discovering this I put the sign back up. To my dismay, within two days the sign had been stolen.

It has amazed me that our Freedom of Speech has been attacked like this in Brown County.

Over the history of this great country many, many heroes have died for the right of freedom of speech. The person, or persons, responsible for the theft of my sign has spit in the face of those heroes.
