Letter: ‘Worry about how Nashville will survive,’ not a flag

To the editor:

As I was enjoying my most recent paper, I was bemused by the comments by council member Hofstetter and her concerns over the squad car decal. I mention this as she is upset over the squad car decal for what it represents.

Let me tell you what it represents. Courage to do a job that no one else wants to do. Integrity for making sure that everyone is treated the same, whether you’re poor or rich. Officers give the same level of dedication to each. Dedication. For going out in all types of weather while you cower in fear, doing a job often by themselves.

Council member Hofstetter mentions that she has spoken with several people who are afraid if they speak up that there will be retribution. This is typical liberal argument in which they claim that someone is “offended” but they fail to provide concrete and discernible facts. Besides that, what retribution would take place and by whom?

The Black lives movement is a movement that the founders self-admit is a Marxist organization which is dedicated to the harassment and death of police officers. Let me remind Ms. Hofstetter about Dallas a few years ago. A BLM supporter gunned down numerous police officers as they were protecting a Black Lives Matter parade. She views the Blue Lives Matter symbol, which has been around for 100 years, as one of oppression, while no doubt she believes that the BLM symbol is one of peace.

This summer, the BLM movement damaged and attacked the Champaign (Illinois) police department. Days later this group decided to attack the Urbana Police. I went down to watch, a senior citizen, sitting by myself, in an empty parking lot 200 yards from where this group was. Within moments I was surrounded and threatened by this group for doing nothing other than sitting in a parking lot. This is not what you would call a “peaceful” organization. It is a terrorist organization.

I have noted this summer that the intelligentsia, whom four years ago were part of the Hillary clan mocking the “deplorables” and their guns, are now in fact the ones purchasing the guns. If the woke folk are buying guns in record numbers, who are they worried about and why? The skyrocketing murder rate in the Democratic-run cities of Indianapolis, Chicago, New York and others gives you the answer.

Concentrate on building formative relationships on the council during these very difficult economic times. Try to avoid the worries of the Subaru/Hyundai-driving, Birkenstock shoe-wearing groups. Worry about how Nashville will survive, not what decal is on a faded hood of a squad car.
