Jimmie Douglas Edwards, 77, of Columbus, passed away at 3:34 p.m. on Jan. 20, 2021, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born May 18, 1943, in Edmonton, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William Elmer and Gladys (Blades) Edwards. He married Sandra (Davis) Edwards on April 26, 1974, in Fortville; she survives.

Jimmie graduated from high school in Edmonton, Kentucky. He went on to work for Duke Energy in Columbus as a lineman and service man for 45 years until his retirement. He was a member of Parkside Baptist Church in Columbus, was elected Town Council President of Nashville in 1988, and served on the Democratic Precinct Committee. He was awarded a key to the town of Nashville for his many years of service. He enjoyed walking and cracking one-liners. Jimmie never met a stranger. He loved sharing coffee with his friends and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; son, Robert Owings of Nashville; daughters, Natalie (Howard) Goldsmith of Hastings, Nebraska, Pamela (Aaron) Haney of Columbus, Angela (Tim) Douglas of New Whiteland and Lori Owings of Bloomington; brothers, Jack (Erica) Edwards of Waynetown and Andy (Pam) Edwards of Columbus; sisters, Janet Hochstetler of Goshen and Judy Edwards of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jennifer, Josh, Sara, Bre, Zach, Jeremiah, Joey, Micah, Cassidy and Elijah; and great grandchildren, Selah, Sophie, Silas, Serenity, Korbin, Kamren, Ellidy and Cash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rex, Leroy, Buddy and Phillip; and sisters, Faye and Donna Mae.

A private family funeral service for Jimmie will be held with burial to take place at a later date at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Jimmie’s honor through the funeral home to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
