GNAW BONE — A 73-year-old man from Bozeman, Montana, was injured in a car crash on State Road 46 East on Jan. 21 after he struck a deer.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholson Briles responded to the one vehicle-crash just after 6 p.m. in the 7800 block of 46 East near the Old State Road 46 intersection. He found the vehicle facing west on the south side of the road with heavy front end damage, an accident report states.

The driver, John C. Brown, was being tended to by EMS personnel. Briles noted Brown had a hip injury and a small cut above his eye. He also noted the driver was confused and was not sure what had happened, the report states.

Other people at the scene told Briles that Brown had struck a deer. A witness said she was driving west two cars behind Brown. She said the vehicle began to smoke and swerve to the right. As it swerved, the vehicle did a complete spin and struck the guardrail on the opposite side of the road.

The witness said she did see a deer on the side of the road and she knew the driver had struck it. The witness came to a stop and called for help, the report states.

Brown was removed from the vehicle by EMS personnel and was traken to Columbus Regional Hospital. The vehicle was towed. Brown was wearing a seat belt, the report said.
