House destroyed in fire on Horseshoe Road

HAMBLEN TWP. — Volunteer firefighters from nearly every department in the county were out early Saturday morning battling a house fire.

The fire was reported just after 1 a.m. March 6 in the 9700 block of Horseshoe Road.

Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Justin Griffith said that 75 to 80 percent of the home was lost to the fire. The entire house also sustained water damage.

Two people were living in the home and they were not injured. Griffith said the residents received help from family.

Hamblen Fire was assisted at the scene by Cordry-Sweetwater, Fruitdale, Jackson Township and Brown County (Nashville) volunteer fire departments. A Columbus Regional Hospital ambulance and deputies with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department also assisted.

Most firefighters were on the scene until after 6 a.m. Hamblen Fire was on scene until after 10 a.m.

Griffith said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
