<strong>Free legal aid phone clinic set for this week</strong>

Legal Aid will conduct a free legal service phone clinic on Tuesday, April 20 for low-income residents of eight Indiana counties, including Brown County.

The clinic will take place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Callers can expect a 10-minute phone consultation where legal professionals will answer general questions and offer legal information.

Individuals seeking consultation must register by calling Legal Aid at 812-378-0358 on April 20 between noon and 1:30 p.m. A volunteer attorney will return a call to registered individuals between 3 and 5:30 p.m.

<strong>Friar welcomed to church for mission services</strong>

Friar Rusty Shaughnessy will lead a Mass at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1008 McLary Road, on Tuesday, April 20 at 7 p.m. This is the closing service of a four-day mission schedule. Fr. Shaughnessy is internationally recognized for his retreat ministry and is currently the director of the San Damiano Retreat Center in Danville, California. Another Mass will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 21.

<strong>Virtual career fair taking place this week</strong>

Ivy Tech and The Republic newspaper have partnered to help employers in south central Indiana address employment needs. Companies from large multi-shift manufacturing operations to service industry employers are represented. A total of 33 employers have signed on for a virtual career fair to take place Wednesday and Thursday, April 21 and 22.

Employers and job seekers will be able to chat or video call from their mobile devices or desktop computers. This process is very similar to social media messaging.

The event is free for job seekers and they may register at jobmatchindiana.careerfair.live and follow onscreen instructions.

<strong>Choral worship concert set at local church</strong>

BEAN BLOSSOM — The Rosedale Chorale, from Rosedale Bible College, will give a concert at Bean Blossom Community Church, 5046 State Road 135 North, on Sunday, April 25, at 4 p.m.

Directed by Ken Miller, the choir will lead a choral worship service using compositions from the Renaissance to contemporary. This concert is free and open to the public.

<strong>Volunteers needed to put flags on graves</strong>

The Brown County Veterans Service Office is soliciting volunteers to help place flags on veterans’ graves throughout Brown County prior to Memorial Day. To volunteer, contact VSO Liaison Sam Banter at <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a>.

<strong>National Day of Prayer celebration planned</strong>

A National Day of Prayer celebration will take place in downtown Nashville on Thursday, May 6. Everyone is welcome to gather outside the Brown County courthouse at noon, weather-permitting. If weather does not permit, an alternate location will be determined.

Prayers will be lifted for our country, for elected officials, first responders, school systems, our county and all those affected over the last year.

<strong>Deescalation workshop happening in May</strong>

The Brown County Health Department has received a grant to host Verbal Judo, a deescalation workshop, on Wednesday, May 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East.

Participants will learn how to increase workplace safety by decreasing the chance of workplace violence and learn how to defuse verbal conflict.

The class is free to any and every county employee thanks to a grant from the Smithville Charitable Foundation.

The instructor is Mike "Ziggy" Siegried, a speaker who spent 26 years working as a full-time peace officer prior to becoming the COO of the Verbal Judo Institute. Siegfried is a court recognized use-of-force expert and a published author in Police Magazine, the FBI National Academy Associate Magazine, Police Recruit Magazine and Campus Security Magazine.

<strong>Class of ’73 reunion happening this year</strong>

The Brown County High School class of 1973 will reunite this June by the pool at the Brown County Inn.

The reunion will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 12.

Classmates can send $12 to Jed Bessire at P.O. Box 1366, Nashville, IN 47448 or pay $15 at the door to get in. Questions can also be sent to the P.O. box.

There will also be a silent auction to raise money for the class’s 50th reunion. Inexpensive, like-new donations for that auction can also be sent to Bessire.

<strong>Class of ’80 reunion weekend happening this summer</strong>

Brown County High School class of 1980 will have a reunion on Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20.

A dinner will be at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East on Saturday. A family picnic will be in the Brown County State Park on Sunday.

<strong>Local bluebird club selling nesting boxes</strong>

The Brown County Bluebird Club’s annual bluebird nest box sale is underway. Boxes are all cedar and fully assembled. One box is $15 and two boxes are $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
