ART BRIEFS: Art Week activities; Mother’s Day concert; new spring exhibits

Mother’s Day concert set in Bean Blossom

BEAN BLOSSOM — The Hammer and the Hatchet will perform at St. David’s Episcopal Church on Sunday, May 9 at 7 p.m. They will perform Americana standards as well as some original songs.

All are welcome to bring a blanket and sit on the lawn, bring a snack or a picnic dinner.

Social distancing and wearing masks when not eating will be followed.

Many Art Week activities scheduled in mid-May

Peaceful Valley Heritage will present a new event called Art Week May 10-15.

Anchoring this week will be the dedication of the new Indiana Historical Marker, “Art Colony of Brown County.” The unveiling will be Thursday, May 13 at 3:30 p.m. at the northeast corner of the Village Green.

A short list of speakers will be present, including Indiana Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Casey Pfeiffer from the Indiana Historical Bureau, James Glass from Historic Preservation and Heritage Consulting, Mark Dollase with Indiana Landmarks, Brown County Schools Superintendent Laura Hammack and Nashville Town Council President Jane Gore. All are invited to attend and there will be plenty of space for social distancing.

Two events will highlight the collaboration between PVH and Brown County Schools.

On Monday, May 10, the Brown County Art Gallery, 1 Artist Drive, will host visual arts awards for children at 7 p.m. Due to COVID, it is unknown at this time exactly how many people can be in the building at any given time. There will be additional announcements stating whether awards will be given in shifts or all at once.

The show at the Brown County Art Gallery will remain up for at least a week so parents, grandparents, friends and family can view at their leisure if they could not make it on the 10th or if COVID restrictions reduced the number that could attend on that day.

Wednesday, May 12, the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St., will feature the finalists for the essay contest awards. This event is also at 7 p.m.

A Kid’s Day event will be Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Village Green.
