Veterans meetings

Veterans service organizations of Brown County have various meetings throughout the month, all meeting at Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane.

  • Vietnam Veterans of Brown County meet on first Wednesdays. The next meeting is Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars meet on second Thursdays. The next meeting is Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
  • American Legion meets on third Wednesdays. The next meeting is Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.

A Veterans Day event will take place on Nov. 12. Coffee and donuts will be served at 9 a.m. with the main event starting at 10 a.m. Veterans who plan to attend should call 812-988-5600 to RSVP.

Woodworkers club meeting

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane.

Bible study

BEAN BLOSSOM — Brown County women are invited to attend Joy in the Morning, a non-denominational Bible study for women, at the Bean Blossom Community Church, 5046 State Road 135 North, on Thursday mornings, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The next meeting is Nov. 4.

Coffee and fellowship begins at 10 a.m. Childcare is provided and transportation is available if needed. Besides the occasional purchase of the study guide, there is no cost to attend; an offering is taken for childcare. If you would like to attend and need a ride send an email to [email protected].

Historical society meetings

The Brown County Historical Society holds informative and educational meetings throughout the year, and members receive a quarterly society newsletter and a monthly archives e-journal.

Membership is $10 for students, $20 for individuals and $35 for families.

General membership meetings are pitch-in dinners on the first Monday of every month, in the History Center’s Grand Hall on 90 E. Gould Street at 6:30 p.m. A brief business meeting follows dinner with a historically themed presentation afterwards.

The next meeting is on Dec. 6.

Friends of Brown County State Park

Friends of Brown County State Park will have their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will take place at the park’s Nature Center.

A pitch-in dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting following at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own table service and a dish to share.

Rotary Club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East, and via Zoom.

The guest speaker will be Adrianne Spahr, who will discuss World Youth Day, a program initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1985. She will be accompanied by a few prospective participants of the program.

Spahr has served as youth coordinator and minister at St. Agnes for almost 18 years. She has planned multiple service camps for the Brown County community and is committed to helping families. She also led a group to build the Youth Barn next to the church, and she manages Religious Education for middle and high school students. Along with organizing funds for the 2023 World Youth Day program, she raised funds to attend the 2008 program as well.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to our community, are invited to attend.

Salvation Army hosts 4Twelve

The Brown County Salvation Army, 168 S. Jefferson St., will host its weekly 4Twelve: Dinner, worship, games and fellowship for youth. The doors open at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays with dinner at 6 p.m. and a lesson from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
