County council member starts new company

Local Scott Rudd is bringing his broadband knowledge back home to Brown County by starting his own consulting business.

Rudd recently started his own business, Rudd Consulting LLC, and one of his first clients is Thomas P. Miller and Associates. Rudd will work with TPMA as a strategic advisor.

TPMA works with communities, nonprofits and other businesses throughout the country on strategic plans, economic development strategies, community needs assessments and grant writing.

Rudd said he plans to engage clients across the U.S. “to accelerate broadband and technology investments in the hardest to reach areas.”

“With historic investments in broadband being announced recently, the timing of starting a broadband consulting business is quite timely,” he said.

The $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that President Joe Biden recently signed into law sets aside billions of dollars to improve broadband internet throughout the country.

Rudd currently sits on the Brown County Council. He was elected in 2020.

Previously, he was the town manager/economic development director for the town of Nashville before leaving that job in 2018 to become the state’s director of broadband opportunities, a new job in the cabinet of Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch.

“It was an honor to serve the state of Indiana and I look forward to furthering my mission to improve connectivity throughout Indiana and beyond with TPMA,” Rudd said.

“Connectivity is a vital concern for many communities and I am grateful to be able to address Indiana’s broadband needs as well as areas around the country.”

Rudd was the first to hold the position of director of broadband opportunities. Under Rudd’s leadership as the state director of broadband opportunities, the Office of Broadband Opportunities established Indiana’s broadband strategy and created the first grant program for the state.

“We are thrilled to have Scott Rudd join our team,” Tom Miller said, founder of TPMA.

“For 33 years our firm has been focused on making the connection between workforce and economic development. Our broadband efforts are an additional step in providing the vital infrastructure for connectivity to promote economic growth and talent attraction across the country. Scott will strengthen those broadband efforts through his experience and expertise.”
