Calendar approved for next school year
Students will return for the start of the 2022-2023 school year on Aug. 10 next year.
When the first day of school will be and more was finalized at the Nov. 18 Brown County School Board of Trustees meeting after members unanimously approved the school calendar for next school year.
Superintendent Emily Tracy told the board that three calendar options were presented to staff and that the proposed calendar was “overwhelmingly” the popular choice after votes were cast.
Teachers will return ahead of students for the start of school on Aug. 8 and 9 next year.
Fall break will be from Oct. 10 to 14. The first day of the second semester will be Nov. 14.
Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 23 to 25. Winter break will be from Dec. 21 to Jan. 3 with students returning on Jan. 4.
There are two snow make-up days also built into the calendar on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 16, and President’s Day, Feb. 27. Six snow make-up days also are included in the 2021-2022 calendar.
The school district’s eLearning policy is currently under review by district administrators. Previously, the policy was every day that school was closed for weather was an eLearning day unless the days were back to back. Any consecutive closure days would then be snow make-up days that would be made up at the end of the school year.
The third trimester begins on Feb. 27. Spring break for students next school year will be March 13 to 17.
Students will get a day off from school on April 7.
The last day of school will be May 25. Teachers have a work day on May 26.
Brown County High School’s evening commencement is scheduled for June 2.
School board member Amy Oliver thanked the staff and Tracy for putting the calendar together.
“I know everyone has preferences, when they think we should have vacations and how that should be structured. I want to say thank you to those people for the time and effort that goes into that,” Oliver said.
“It’s always like ‘Of course this is the schedule,’ but it’s not. A lot of time effort and goes into that.”
School board approves staff changes, teacher evaluation plan
The Brown County School Board of Trustees approved the following on Nov. 18:
The 2021-2022 teacher evaluation and compensation plan for Brown County Schools. Teachers receive bonuses for hitting different marks throughout the school year. The bonuses are funded by a five-year, $5.5 million federal grant from the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching the district received in 2019. This plan outlines how teachers will be evaluated this school year and how they will be compensated.
