Family of four loses home to fire on Hurdle Road

A family of four lost their home to a fire on Hurdle Road last night and donations for them will be accepted in Nashville starting today.

Firefighters with the Hamblen Township, Fruitdale, Jackson Township and Brown County (Nashville) volunteer fire departments were dispatched to a structure fire just after 7 p.m. in the 400 block of Hurdle Road.

When firefighters arrived there was a heavy fire in the second story of the home, Hamblen Fire Capt. Justin Griffith said.

The fire was put out without any injuries reported. The cause is still under investigation, Griffith said.

Fire departments from Morgantown, Trafalgar and Nineveh also assisted at the scene. Three conservation officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and a deputy with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department also assisted.

Firefighters responded twice to a rekindle of the fire at midnight and around 5 a.m. this morning.

The family stayed at a local hotel last night and there is a plan for them to live in a rental house that is owned by another relative, said family friend Ayreka Preston.

As the family waits for their insurance claim to be finished they are in need of clothing and toiletries.

There were three adults and one child living in the home.

The young boy wears child size extra large, size 16 slim pants and size 9 shoes.

A man in the home wears size extra large, 36×32 pants and size 11 shoes.

Two women also lived in the home. One wears a size 2X, size 18 or 20 pants and size 9 shoes. The other woman wears size large or extra large, size 14, 15 and 16 pants and size 8 shoes.

Donations of clothing and toiletries can be dropped off beginning at 11 a.m. today at the Changing Seasons shop in Nashville, 88 N. Van Buren Street. Donations will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
