School district releases eLearning day policy for this year

With the possibility of some snow in the forecast tomorrow, Brown County Schools has released its eLearning day plan for inclement weather this school year.

Under the plan for this school year, every day that school is closed for weather will be an eLearning day, unless those days are back to back. An eLearning day is when students work on assignments from home.

For example, if school is closed on Monday due to weather, that day will be an eLearning day. But if school is closed that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as well, those days will not be eLearning days; they would be regular snow make-up days that would be tacked onto the end of the calendar.

Superintendent Emily Tracy released the plan to parents via ParentSquare on Jan. 4.

Frigid temperatures and a chance for snow showers are expected Thursday.

This school year’s plan remains the same to previous eLearning day plans.

Brown County School Board of Trustees first approved an eLearning day policy for school year 2019-2020. At that time, the board approved the eLearning policy as it is now because not having every snow day as an eLearning day lessened the impact on families who do not have internet access at home.

Students are given one week to complete assignments they receive on eLearning days if they do not have internet access at home. Once they are back at school, they can submit those assignments.

School closure announcements will be made no later than 5:45 a.m. unless emergencies arise, according to the plan.

“Every effort will be made to make the decision as early as possible and the night before if at all possible,” the plan states.
