SPORTS BRIEFS: New classes starting at YMCA

The Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., will offer group exercise sessions beginning this month.

The following sessions will be from Jan. 3 through Feb. 12.

  • Tabata: 6 and 8 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Men’s core: 7 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Aqua Power: 8 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Yoga: 8:30 and 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Silver Sneakers: 10:15 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Total Body: On Zoom or in-person, 5:25 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Intense Aqua: 5:25 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Dog Training: 5 p.m. on Thursdays.
  • Mobility and Body Weight: 9 a.m. on Saturdays.
  • Youth Fencing: 11:15 a.m. on Saturdays.

Prices are per six week sessions. The cost varies for members and non-members.

The youth fencing class will begin on Jan. 8 and runs until Feb. 12. The cost is $90 for Y members and $110 for a guest plus the cost of equipment rental. Equipment is required.

A mobility and body weight class will also begin on Jan. 8 and will happen every Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Instruction emphasis will be low impact, focused and functional movement. Register for this class at the YMCA front desk.

The YMCA also offers open gym for basketball and pickleball for players 16 and older of all ability levels with informal, friendly games.

Core Conditioning is also available on Wednesdays on Zoom or in-person.

Basketball is offered from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Pickleball is 5:30 to 10 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 5:30 to 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 7 to 9 a.m. on Saturdays. Pickleball for beginners is on Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.

A flex pass is also available for $72 and can be used to take 12 of any of the classes.
