Gerald L. Scrougham

Gerald L. Scrougham, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 16, 2022 at Brown County Health & Living Community in Nashville. He was a resident of Nashville.

Gerald was born July 23, 1937 in Brown County, to his parents, the late Muncie and Fern (Chitwood) Scrougham. He attended school in Helmsburg. Gerald was retired after more than 50 years of being self-employed in the construction industry.

He attended the Parkview Church of Nazarene in Nashville since 1986 and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Gerald enjoyed the outdoors by fishing, archery and tending to his vegetable garden. He was also an avid deer, turkey and squirrel hunter. Gerald also enjoyed making rustic style furniture and building things for his grandchildren. He was an expert at dowsing, one who has the unique skill of finding water underground.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rebecca J. (Sisson) Scrougham, whom he married on Feb. 13, 1966 in Morgantown. He is also survived by his children, Gwenn Wooton of Brown County, Gail Wilson of Nashville and Joe Scroughman of Brown County; siblings, Earl Scrougham of Nashville and Joyce Everling of Helmsburg; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia Scrougham; son in law, Jim Wooton; siblings, Carl, Harold, Richard and Allen Scrougham; and two infant children.

The Rev. Stan Loutner will conduct a funeral service on Friday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Parkview Church of Nazarene, 1750 State Road 46 in Nashville. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Brown County.
