The arrest was announced on the Brown County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page over the weekend. On Monday morning it was clarified by the department that the arrest was for child abduction or concealment and not kidnapping, which was originally posted.

Deputies responded to the state park to assist in finding a suspicious man who was last seen with a young child near the state park south gate.

The man, later identified as 33-year-old Daniel N. Eggers, of Lovelock, Nevada, was then spotted by police driving north through the park.

A traffic stop was initiated on the Main Road within the park, according to the sheriff’s department.

During the traffic stop, Eggers refused to identify himself. He was then arrested for refusal to identify. Once his identity was determined deputies discovered he was wanted out of Nevada on multiple warrants, including child abduction or concealment.

It was then determined the 8-year-old child that was with Eggers in the vehicle was the victim of the abduction in Nevada, according to the sheriff’s department.

Eggers was booked into the Brown County jail and was being held for extradition to Nevada as of Monday morning, according to jail records.

The child was turned over to the Department of Child Services.

“We would like to thank the officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Brown County State Park staff and the Nashville Police Department for their assistance,” the sheriff’s department Facebook post states.
