Charles R. “Charlie Bob” Thomas

Charles R. “Charlie Bob” Thomas, age 83 passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 11, 2022 at his home in Trafalgar.

Charlie was born Aug. 21, 1938, in Bloomington to his parents the late Robert and Violet (Albright) Thomas. After high school, he went on to proudly serve his country as a Corporal with the United States Marine Corps. Charlie married Carol Ann Spencer on May 12, 1960 and together they started a life and were blessed with 8 children.

He will be missed by his children, Peggy (Michael Joe) Smith of Indianapolis, Debra (Steve) Pierle of Greenwood, Tim (Jennifer) Thomas, Marliena (Jim) Beswick and Amanda (Jimmy Collins) Bowling all of Trafalgar, Teresa Thomas of Nashville; a special brother-in-law whom he treated like a son, Michael Spencer of Mississippi. He will also be missed by his 32 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Violet Thomas; his wife of 55 years, Carol Ann; two sons, Charles Lester and Robert Eugene; brother Michael Thomas; sisters, JoAnn Shotts, Connie Thomas, Gloria Pope and Maria Cool and four great grandsons.

At the age of 16, Charlie was a self-taught carpenter and built houses for many years. He later worked for many years for Midwest Concrete from which he retired from at the age of 72.

Charlie was an avid old car collector and loved to restore cars, especially Packards. He also enjoyed collecting case knives and guns and loved going to the flea market, selling his whirly birds.

He loved listening to country music and was a self-taught guitar player. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and all generations of grandkids.

A Graveside inurnment will he held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Goshen Cemetery in Brown County. Military rites will be presented by the United States Marine Corp and the Brown County Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
