VETERANS’ CORNER: Opportunities to connect abound in coming month

By CHRIS SNELL, guest columnist

Welcome to April! The Brown County Veterans’ Service Office’s mission and vision are the foundation of the movement of our office. We are committed to having these foundations and truly desire to be a valuable resource to our veterans and their families.

Our mission is to serve the veterans, veterans’ dependents and veterans’ survivors of Brown County by offering assistance in filing claims for Veterans Affairs federal benefits, obtaining military records, accessing VA services and conducting education and outreach services.

Our vision is to foster thankfulness to our veterans and their families.

Coffee, doughnuts event return

Coffee and doughnuts with your county Veterans Service officer is back!

Every Friday morning beginning at 7 a.m. and continuing until 9 a.m., or whenever the last person leaves. We will have fresh doughnuts and coffee waiting for you.

This is open to the public and we encourage you to stop by the Veterans Building at 902 Deer Run Lane outside of Nashville to meet with me and learn more about what we offer to the community, our veterans and their families. The dates are as follows: April 1; April 8; April 15; April 22; and April 29.

April 15 is Good Friday and county buildings will be closed, but we will be opening our office to still hold this event in the morning.

Veteran, surviving spouse claimants

If you are a veteran or surviving spouse who has started a claim with me and you are wondering about the process or anything regarding your case, please feel free to contact my office by walking in, calling our office at 812-988-5600 or emailing me at [email protected].

I am available to answer your questions.

How to schedule presentations

Want to schedule us for a presentation?

If you are a community resource of any type, we would love the opportunity to travel to your location in support of educating veterans and their beneficiaries of their benefits. We are taking requests for presentations to your organization or business.

Fostering a spirit of thankfulness

We would like to thank Access Brown County for being an integral part of transporting veterans to their VA appointments. Access Brown County has the capabilities with their vehicles to support handicap accessibility and safe transportation through the paid staff drivers. In 2021, they transported 18 veterans.
