Natalie (Bolte) Lavengood

Natalie (Bolte) Lavengood, born Oct. 6 1936, passed away March 30 2022. She was the daughter of Martha Belle and John Henry Bolte. Formerly living in Brown County, she lived in Columbus. Natalie was a graduate of Purdue University where she met and married N. Peter Lavengood. Preceded in death by sister Martha Bolte McCardle and nephew Matthew McCardle.
Natalie worked for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation and IUPUI where she taught mathematics and computer technology. She retired in 1998.
She enjoyed bicycle touring with Pete, and they toured in many states, in England, Ireland and Germany. In following years, she rode the back of Pete’s motorcycle, touring across the United States, Canada, Scotland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Mexico and New Zealand. When she was 65 she decided to celebrate that milestone by doing the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon. It was so much fun that she continued to do half marathons even after heart surgery and cancer treatments, accomplishing fifteen of them until she was 79. Then her heart failure slowed her down.
She valued her membership in Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Women Educators, and was active in volunteering her time to help children serving as a Book Buddy for BCSC and knitting hats and mittens as donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society of Brown County.
She is survived by her beloved family: husband Pete, son Peter Kent Lavengood and his wife Carla Roth, Carol Lavengood and her husband Steve Prosser. She is also survived by step-grandson Dillon Roth, step great-grandsons Malik and Julian Marshall, and by niece Lynne McCardle Lautzenheimer, great niece Natalie Smith, great nephew Richard Stern.
In keeping with her wishes cremation took place. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
