Frank Lloyd Van Overmeiren

Frank Lloyd Van Overmeiren was a strong man with a big heart and a commanding presence. He was a champion of the underdog, passionate about fire protection and life safety, a community activist, small business owner, and a generous mentor. When he was not creating safer built environments, he loved the peace and tranquility of life at the lake with his loving wife Julia, his dogs Gigi and, Dexter his constant companion and faithful guardian.

Frank was an eternal optimist and even in the depths of a grueling cancer treatment, proclaiming “Every day I am 1% better.” Frank would say, “Cancer is a war, you may not win every battle, but you keep marching.” That he did until the very end.

He loved and was loved by his dear wife Julia (Andrews-Van Overmeiren); Daughters: Kelly Frechette (Ryan Moore), Reagan Andrews-Wood (Kaleb); Son: Reeve Andrews (Brittany Gholston); Grandchildren: Dylan, Shawn, Aidan and Vivian; Sisters: Jacque and Lisa Van Overmeiren; Father: Richard (Rich) Van Overmeiren; Niece: Erica Acevedo (Shawn); and Nephew: Nicholas Seno.
Frank entered heaven on April 1, 2022, to be reunited with his mother, Antoinette (Toni) Van Overmeiren.

Frank and Julia’s love story was not nearly long enough, but they lived, laughed, and loved a lifetime in the 10 years they had the privilege of being together. Frank passed away peacefully, wrapped in Julia’s arms with her head on his chest, telling him how much he was loved. Julia had the most precious of moments when she had the honor of hearing his last heartbeat as he started his journey home. Frank’s daughter Kelly and grandson Dylan were also by his side.

Frank was adored by friends, colleagues, employees, and clients for his knowledge of fire/life safety codes and his generosity with sharing his expertise. His skill was like the ripples on his beloved lake: sending knowledge ever outward into the future. His colleagues and friends will remember his passion and dedication.

Frank founded his company, Fire Protection & Code Consulting (FP&C) in 1984 and moved his business to Speedway Indiana in 2006. Due to Frank’s knowledge, hard work and dedication he then opened the Kansas City branch of FP&C. Frank was active in several National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical committees – NFPA 99 Healthcare Facilities Code, NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, NFPA 3 Standard for the Commissioning of Fire Protection Systems and NFPA 4 Standard for Integrated Fire Protection and Life Safety System Testing. Frank helped write the codes and procedures that made the world safer. He graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering and was a lifetime advocate for fire protection profession. His professional expertise will be greatly missed.

Frank was a lifelong advocate for the Boy Scouts of America. He achieved his Eagle Scout Badge in 1974. He also had the honor of presenting the Eagle Scout Badge to his boyhood friends’ son, Dan Steimel and his nephew Nicholas Seno.
