State police investigating after person shot by officer

The Indiana State Police are investigating an incident last night that led to a local officer shooting a person in the southern part of the county.

The ISP Bloomington District was called to investigate the incident at the request of the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and the Nashville Police Department, according to a press release sent overnight.

Officers from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department and Nashville Police Department responded to a report of a suicidal person at a home in the southern part of the county at around 9 p.m. last night, according to the press release.

Once at the home on Mt. Liberty Road, officers made contact with the person outside and they allegedly pointed a handgun toward the officers. One of the officers at the scene fired at least one shot from their department-issued handgun, hitting the subject, according to the release.

The person was then transported by a medical helicopter to a hospital in Indiana for “potentially life-threatening injuries,” the release states.

No one else was injured.

The identities of those involved will be released at a later time, according to ISP.

“This is an active and ongoing criminal investigation by the Indiana State Police. Once the criminal investigation is complete, the investigation will be turned over to the Brown County Prosecutor for review and determination of charges, if any, to be filed,” the release states.
