Tail-waggin’ fun: Pups head to the park for games, contests at humane society fundraiser

The sun was shining, tails were wagging and noses sniffed the air at Deer Run Park this past weekend, as the Brown County Humane Society hosted its 20th annual Dawg Gone Walk and Fiesta fundraiser.

Nearly $40,000 was raised for the humane society that day, as pet owners bought tickets for their pups to play games, compete in challenges and contests and sponsors donated funds to the cause.

Some dogs wore harnesses that said “Adopt me” in the patchwork in hopes that an attendee may take them home.

Vendors such as pet stores, groomers, dog masseurs and more set up tents around the soccer field at Deer Run with raffles and goodies for pets.

“We are so grateful to the 135 dogs and their people who registered for Sunday’s event,” humane society community relations manager Megan Gushwa said. “We know it was an unexpectedly hot day but it was a wonderful turnout and we hope everyone enjoyed the event as much as we did. A big thank you to every single person who helped make it a great success!”
