Letters to the editor for week of June 8

Thank you for a Dawg Gone successful fundraiser

To the editor:

Our Brown County Humane Society recently completed its 20th annual Dawg Gone Walk and Fiesta. This year’s event brought together over 115 dogs and their human companions for a day of fun and games.

It was unexpectedly hot, but attendees and volunteers did not let that dampen their spirits! As a result, this year’s event generated the most proceeds ever in its 20 years.

We would especially like to thank the following: Earl Piper for blessing the dogs; Nancy Pugh for doing a wonderful job of emceeing the event; Reva Brummett for providing amazing music to keep the crowd energized as well as some yummy food; Diane Brubaker for providing nail trims for the dogs; Ann Tarvin for pampering the dogs with massages; and our contest judges, Susan Armstrong and Jane Ellis.

A big thank you goes out to the Jackson Township Fire Department for bringing out their ladder truck and helping to make our Ball Drop ending a possibility. We love the excitement this adds to the end of the event and the enthusiasm you guys always add! It would not have been possible without your help.

This year, our generous Platinum Sponsors included: Bone Dry Waterproofing, Bright Hope Dog Training/Golden Post Kennels, Jones Law Office, Scott Nelson, Royal on the Eastside, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Tony Stewart Foundation, Werling Charitable Foundation and Zack’s Investment Management.

In addition, we had many gold, silver and bronze sponsorships that provided financial support for this event. In total, the sponsors donated over $30,000 to this year’s Dawg Walk!

We have all heard that “It Takes a Village.” This event could not have happened without the wonderful volunteers that worked all day to make this event a fantastic success. From set up to clean up this group ensured that everyone had a great time. It is a true pleasure to work with such dedicated people.

And lastly, the Dawg Gone Walk and Fiesta would not happen without the participants and their dogs. From small to large dogs, the love and passion these owners have for their pets is amazing.

Thank you all for braving the unexpected heat and sun and coming out and enjoying the day with us.

Concerns about county roads, damages to vehicle

To the editor:

I am, and have been, a Brown County resident all of my life.

I am a working husband and father of two. I am finding it very difficult to travel to and from work with the potholes in this county. This is the second time I have blown out my break lines in my SUV driving these roads. Myself and others pay taxes. Where are they going? The roads are only getting worse. The so called Band-Aid patches are not working!

I sat one day and watched them patch a few potholes on the road I live on. I was shocked. Dump the hot patch on, tamp, tamp, tamp and go. This is unacceptable.

I know that I am not the only person that has had damage done to their vehicle. The first time I just blew it off with $330 down the drain, but a second time is uncalled for and someone in this county needs to take responsibility for this.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Chris Irish, Brown County
