Jerry L. Higgins

Jerry L. Higgins, formerly of Nashville, Indiana, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones Saturday July 23, 2022 at his home in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Mr. Higgins was born on March 2, 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana to his late parents Omen and Rowena ( Haley) Higgins. He graduated from Bloomington High School. Jerry honorably served in The United States Navy as a Radioman 1st Class and is a Korean War Veteran. He also attended Indiana University and remained an avid Hoosier fan throughout the years.
Mr. Higgins spent most of his life in the trucking industry and owned a successful trucking company in Indianapolis for many years before retiring in 2005. Jerry was an active and dedicated member of the Republican Party of Brown County, serving as the county chairman for over a decade. He was also on The Nashville Town Council for several years.
Jerry enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, watching the Indiana Hoosiers, fishing, playing golf, and most recently taking drives with his loved ones.
Jerry will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 60 years Janet (Bessire) Higgins, his children Jeffrey (Pam) Higgins, Daniel Higgins, Stephanie (Chuck) Yager, Ronald (Tina) Higgins, and Jessica George, his brothers Larry and Jack Higgins, his sisters Joyce Gillespie, and Meredith Stevens, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents Omen and Rowena Higgins, his brother Tom, twin brother Joe, his sister Janet Narwold, and his brother Steve.
Arrangements for Jerry are being made by Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home in Punta Gorda, Florida. Jerry will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Sarasota National Veteran’s Cemetery in Sarasota Florida.
A Celebration of Life for Jerry will be planned later.
