TOWN NEWS: Council motions to remove vice president

This summer the Nashville Town Council voted 4-1 to remove member Anna Hofstetter from the vice president position for the remainder of the year.

The motion was made by council member Tyra Miller at the June 16 town council meeting.

Miller made the motion at the beginning of the year for Hofstetter to serve as vice president. The vote in January carried 3-2, with council members Jane Gore and David Rudd opposing.

Hofstetter was elected to town council in 2018. She recently filed to be re-elected to a seat on town council.

When asked why Miller made the motion to remove Hofstetter from the position, Miller said that she believed she had made a mistake by motioning for Hofstetter to serve as vice president.

“I feel like this is a service position to the community and I feel like it’s hard for (Hofstetter) to make that distinction,” she said. “Sometimes it’s more political. I think I made a mistake (with my initial motion) and I want to ask for a correction.”

Hofstetter said she did not think she could be removed as vice president since the appointment was for the entire year.

Town Attorney Wanda Jones said she did not see a specific rule disallowing the motion and action removing her as vice president.

Crocker, Miller, Gore and Rudd voted in favor of removing Hofstetter from the role and appointing Gore to serve as vice president for the remainder of the year. Hofstetter opposed the motion.
