Raymond J. ‘Ray’ Adcock Sr.

Raymond J. ‘Ray’ Adcock Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Aug. 17, 2022 at his home in Morgantown. He was a former resident of Brown County.
Ray was born April 21, 1942 in Lynchburg, Virginia, to his parents, the late Lemon and Frances (Johns) Adcock. He attended high school in Ellicott City, Maryland and went on to retire in 2006, after working 31 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 103 in Indianapolis.
Ray was a member of the Brown County Community Church in Helmsburg, past 20-year member of the Buck & Does Square Dance Club and a past 11-year member of the Brown County Historical Society. His greatest joy was square dancing. Ray danced in towns all over Indiana as well as in several states during national square dancing conventions. He also enjoyed deer hunting, watching court television, listening to bluegrass music and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts. Ray was a homebody and spent many hours sitting on his porch drinking coffee. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Cordelia J. ‘Dee’ (White) Adcock, whom he married on Jan. 21, 1995 in Indianapolis. Ray is also survived by his children, Rodney Adcock of Indianapolis and Wanda Harrison of Indianapolis; brother: James (Ruth) Adcock of Baltimore, MD; step children, Mike (Debbie) Champlin of Martinsville, Steve Champlin of Danville and Gina (Tom) Fosso-Shivley of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Raymond (Amber Godbey) Adcock III of Indianapolis, Arizona (Savannah) Adcock-Burns of Indianapolis, Joshua Adcock of Greenwood, Ryan Adcock of Indianapolis, Timothy Cooper of Virginia and Amanda (Hunter) May of Indianapolis; great grandchildren, Raymond Adcock IV of Greenfield, Logan Adcock of Indianapolis, Aiden & Rylan Cooper both of Florida, Quincy Adcock of Indianapolis, Ariel & Malia Burns of Indianapolis and Mikie Blair of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond J. Adcock Jr.; siblings, Eula Simmons, Shirley Miller, Howard, Calvin, Edward, Lyle & Maynard Adcock.
Pastor Ken Smith will conduct a funeral service at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
