Coach’s comments: The Eagles were defeated by the Artesians of Martinsville Aug. 16 at the BCHS tennis courts. The Eagles lone win came from sophomore Owen East at No. 2 singles with two tie-break wins in sets two and three. Our No. 1 doubles team of juniors Jon Kirchoffer and Sawyer Gore had a very competitive match, but fell just short. In an exciting match at No. 3 singles sophomore Trevor Shields came up a little short in the third set tie-break. At No. 1 singles, junior Jack Sichting played one of the best players we will see all season in Martinsville’s Nate Viewegh. This was a great first match for the Eagles and they were very competitive although they start each match down 0-1 due to our small numbers.

Brown Co.: 0-1, 0-0 WIC

Brown County 0, Indian Creek 5

Stats

No. 1 singles: Peyton Strunk (IC) d. Jack Sichting (BC) 6-2, 6-2

No. 2 doubles: Evan Scheib, Ryan Lengrich 1-0

Coach’s comments: The Eagles were defeated by the Braves from Indian Creek 0-5 on Aug. 17 at BCHS courts. The Eagles came up against a very experienced Braves team. Junior Jack Sichting played a very smart match and he can use it to build upon this season. Our other two singles players, sophomores Owen East and Trevor Shields, also seem to improve with each shot. Our doubles team of juniors Jon Kirchoffer and Sawyer Gore are working hard and I expect them to gain valuable experience as they play this season. There is no rest for the Eagles as they play for the third consecutive night as they host the Jets from Hauser Aug. 18.

Brown Co.: 0-2, 0-1 WIC

Brown County 3, Hauser 2

Stats

No. 2 singles: Owen East (BC) d. Jackson Burcham (H) 6-4, 6-1

No. 2 doubles: Caleb Bower, Hogan Weidesatz (H) 1-0

Coach’s comments: The Eagles were victorious over the Jets of Hauser. The Eagles were led by the singles tonight. Junior Jack Sichting won the deciding point for the Eagles with a third set victory at No. 1 singles. Sichting played a great match, probably the best match of his career, he was relaxed and allowed the game to work against his opponent. Sophomore Trevor Shields continued to play solid tennis for us at No. 3 singles. Owen East, a sophomore, won at No. 2 singles with a solid performance against a very consistent player. Once again our doubles team of juniors Jon Kerchoffer and Sawyer Gore faced a very powerful pair, but battled for every point. They continue to gain valuable experience even in defeat.

Brown Co.: 1-2, 0-1 WIC 0-1

Aug. 20

Brown County 0, Northview 5

Stats

No. 1 singles: Christian Roembke (N) d. Owen East (BC) 6-2, 6-2

No. 2 singles: Drew Cook (N) d. Trevor Shields (BC) 6-1, 6-0

No. 3 singles: Brayden Goff (N) 1-0

No. 1 doubles: Caden Schrader, Hunter Johnson (N) d. Jack Sichting, Sawyer Gore (BC) 6-0, 6-1

No. 2 doubles: Nicholas Kaufman, Josh Fowler (N) 1-0

Coach’s comments: The already shorthanded Eagles had to play with one less today and were defeated by the Northview Knights. With a lineup switch, sophomore Owen East was asked to play at No. 1 singles and he played great. He had solid shots all day and might have even surprised himself. Fellow sophomore, Trevor Shields played at No. 2 singles and really played a solid match. Our usual No. 1 singles player junior Jack Sichting paired with junior Sawyer Gore. This new duo was fun to watch and had some really exciting points. It was evident that the Eagles were playing in the fourth match in six days, there were points that we were a little slow to get to. The Eagles will get some needed rest as they will not play again until Aug. 25 when they travel to Bedford North Lawrence.

Brown Co.: 1-3, 0-2 WIC
