PET TAILS: Humane society launches new program to place long-stay dogs

0

In an effort to help some of the long-stay dogs at the shelter find their forever home, BCHS has launched a Foster to Family program! Have you been considering adopting a dog, but are worried about committing without knowing if a dog is really “the one?”

The Foster to Family program allows qualifying dogs to go home with approved fosters for a maximum of two weeks in order to give everyone time to begin adjusting to one another and see if it is a good match. Once the two-week period is over, the foster can complete the adoption or return the dog. The wonderful part is even if it does not work out with a specific family, it gives the dog a much-needed break from the shelter and helps us gain valuable insight into that dog’s behavior in a home to help find its perfect match in the future.

Foster applicants will follow the standard application approval process. Approved fosters will be required to complete a foster contract and pay a $50 deposit that will either be refunded or go toward that dog’s adoption fee when finalized.

At this time, the following dogs are currently available for our Foster to Family program:

Bodhi — As Bodhi has come out of his shell, it has become very obvious that being with people is what makes him happiest. He seeks out affection and is ready to tackle life as long as he knows those around him are there to help out. What starts as shyness blossoms into pure love in just a matter of minutes.

Dresden — Dresden always has a smile on his face. That may be because everything makes him happy. For example, walks. Then there’s tennis balls. Treats. Tennis balls. Of course, attention from his companions. And more tennis balls. Dresden’s pure enjoyment of life seems contagious.

Sky — This little cutie is both full of zip and a cuddler. She loves playing in the sand box and has loads of fun splashing in the baby pool. She also shows off her awesome sit and runs zoomies around the yard. But best of all, she settles down for pets and doles out lots of kisses.

Sydney — When presented with a tub of toys, Sydney goes straight for the squeaky ball. She loves them! She’ll sit, rather impatiently, as you get ready to throw the ball, then run as fast as she can to retrieve it. She loves to make it squeak. Sydney is a silly girl and is bound to keep you entertained.

If you are interested in meeting any of these dogs, please visit the shelter or complete an online adoption application (www.bchumane.org/adoption-application/) and a staff member will reach out to discuss any questions you have.

It’s a great time to add a new pet to your family!
