AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Author documents 35 unsolved cases in debut book

A local author has compiled 35 little known unsolved crime cases from around the state, including one from Brown County, into a debut book.

Author Autumn Bones took the time to answer some questions about her new book, “Unsolved Indiana,” which is available for purchase on Amazon.

Q: In 25 words or less, what’s this book about?

“Unsolved Indiana” highlights 35 little known unsolved true crime cases from all across the state of Indiana.

Q: What inspired you to write it?

I wrote “Unsolved Indiana” with one purpose in mind; to share the stories that have been “forgotten” with the passage of time. It is my hope that by retelling them, both the story, and the victims’ memory will live on.

Q: Have you written any other books?

“Unsolved Indiana” is my first published work, however I have several others in the works!

Q: What’s your day job?

I am a full-time stay at home mom and wife. In my spare time, however, I enjoy reading, urban exploration, hiking and magnet fishing.

Q: What are your connections to Brown County?

I was born and raised in Indiana, but moved to Brown County six years ago with my family after visiting Nashville. I like to joke we came for a visit, and just never left!

Q: What’s your writing ritual? In what environment do you work best?

I am quite the night owl, so I do most of my research and writing at night. I spend countless hours combing through newspaper archives, missing persons reports, and county records with the hopes of finding the lesser known cases and “rescuing” them from obscurity.

Q: What’s the last book you read? Do you have a favorite?

I just finished reading “The Poisoner’s Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York” by Deborah Blum. It was excellent! My favorite book of all time is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson.

Q: Where can people buy this book, and for how much?

“Unsolved Indiana” is available for purchase from Amazon and Barnes and Noble for $23.99.
