Battery charge made towards Brown County woman

HAMBLEN TWP. — A Morgantown woman, 42-year-old Amy Potter, faces a Class A misdemeanor for domestic battery.

On Sept. 6, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy William Pool and Indiana State Police Trooper Matt Fleener responded to a residence on Gatesville Road for a disturbance.

Upon arrival, Deputy Pool located Potter and another individual in the driveway of the residence. Potter was attempting to leave the residence in a vehicle. Deputy Pool asked her to exit the vehicle to speak with her.

Potter stated she was trying to leave the residence to go to a doctor’s appointment and the victim said she was “in no condition to drive,” according to the probable cause affidavit. The two said this ultimately led to a fight between them.

Potter told police the victim had slammed her left arm in the car door multiple times, but no markings or redness were reportedly found on her person.

The victim said Potter had bit him in the upper arm. Police observed the bite mark, which was reportedly red and had begun to bruise.

Potter said she bit the victim because she “did not know what else to do,” according to the affidavit.

After the two officers spoke about the situation, the decision was made to arrest Potter for domestic battery for biting the victim’s arm.

Potter was transported to the Brown County Jail and was formally charged on Sept. 7.
