Rotary club

Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the Seasons Lodge and Conference Center, 560 State Road 46 East.

The guest speaker will be Cassie Stratton, president and lead literary specialist for READy to R.E.A.D., who will discuss helping children in Brown County who are experiencing difficulty in learning to read.

Ready to R.E.A.D. started in 2021 as a response to the lack of availability and of affordability of literacy specialists. It is a tax-exempt under 501(c)3 nonprofit created in collaboration with the Center for Vibrant Schools, an initiative founded by Marian University.

Stratton earned a master of education, elementary education and teaching, from Marian University in Indianapolis. She is licensed or certified in Universal Design for Learning, Orton-Gillingham, and as an elementary generalist K-6, English as a new language P-12, and reading P-12. She is also a reading specialist trained in dyslexia. She has 21 years of teaching experience in places as varied as Indianapolis, Italy, Russia and South Korea.

Veterans organizations

Veterans service organizations of Brown County have various meetings throughout the month, all meeting at the Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane. The Veterans Hall is a government facility and is alcohol free.

Vietnam Veterans of Brown County meet on first Wednesdays.

Veterans of Foreign Wars meet on second Thursdays.

American Legion meets on third Wednesdays.

American Legion Writers Group meets on second Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Bridge and euchre clubs

Brown County Parks and Recreation is currently seeking additional players for its Bridge Club and Euchre Club. Those interested should contact parks and rec at 812-988-5522.

Bluebird club

The Brown County Bluebird Club is again offering fully assembled cedar bluebird nest boxes for $15 each or two for $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
