Originally from Columbus, James Dean Whipker, 79, of Nashville, Indiana, died in the early hours on Thursday, Nov. 10 at his Brown County home. Jim was born on Sept. 28, 1943, in Columbus, Indiana to Halford and Pauline (Chambers) Whipker. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1963 and married Barbara J. Harris, also of Columbus, on July 20, 1963.
Known as Dizzy Dean to his CB radio friends, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying model airplanes but one of his favorite things to do was to sit around a table with family and friends playing euchre and other card games.
Jim supported his family by working at Cummins Engine Company. He made many lifelong friends during his 35 years with the company before retiring in 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara and their four children: Regina (Eric) McDonald of Nineveh, Rhonda (Scott) Butler of Washington, Renea (Lee) Lawson of Nevada, and Raymond (Rhonda) Whipker of Scottsburg; his brother Richard (Janet) Whipker of Colorado; as well as ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Judith Ann (Whipker) Walker.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Free Methodist Church, of which Jim was a member since September 20, 1967.
Jim’s life and memory will be honored at a Celebration of Life Memorial.
