Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

The Brown County History Center, 70 Gould St., will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting from 5:30 to 7 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 25.

There will be music, homemade cookies, hot chocolate and tea. Santa and Mrs. Santa Claus will be in the Gnaw Bone Log Room ready to visit with patrons of all ages.

Stuff a stocking returns this weekend

The Brown County Community Foundation (BCCF) will once again celebrate the holidays with the 8th annual Stuff a Stocking event on Saturday, Nov. 26.

At this family-friendly event, children will have the opportunity to follow a map to more than 25 merchants gathering treats, ornaments, toys and more to stuff their stockings provided by the Brown County Community Foundation.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. “Will Call” tickets are to be picked up in the Howard F. Hughes Community Building in the lower level of the BCCF Office at 209 N. Van Buren St.

“Will Call” tickets must be picked up by 2 p.m.

A limited number of day-of event tickets will be sold at the BCCF Office.

Tickets are $20 on presale and $25 per day of the event. Tickets can be purchased now via PayPal. Visit browncountygivs.org for more information.

Only 300 tickets and stockings will be sold. Online presale tickets will end at 5 p.m. on Nov. 25.

Seasons holiday show this weekend

The Seasons Holiday Art and Craft Show will be Friday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seasons Event Center, 506 State Road 46 East.

The annual show began almost 40 years ago. This year’s show will showcase 30 artists and crafters from local and regional studios.

Breakfast, brunch and lunch prepared by the Seasons staff will be available.

Lloyd Sisson’s Birthday Celebration

In celebration of Lloyd Sisson’s 89th birthday, a party will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Parkview Church of the Nazarene, 1750 State Road 46 East.

Upcoming events planned at library

The Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, will host several events in November for all ages.

  • Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 11:30 a.m., Eat Smart Live Strong: Munch and Learn, sample delicious food, take home healthy recipes and learn simple tips for healthy eating and increased physical activity. Class size limit 10.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m., “Healthy Habits for Healthy Kids,” Kids can try new foods, experience new flavors and learn about healthy snacks. Class size is limited to 10. For kids ages 6 to 12.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m., BCPL Craft Club: Mosaic Coasters, All tools and materials supplied. For adults and teens 13 and older. Space is limited. Registration required by November 25.
  • Friday, Dec. 2 at 10:30 a.m., Open Play/Family Literacy, Social playtime for kids and literacy tips and family networking for adults.
  • Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2 to 4 p.m., Holiday Crafts for Families, Drop in for family friendly holiday crafts with Miss Samantha.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 6, 1 to 2:30 p.m., “Bags, Boxes and Bows,” papercrafting for the holidays.
  • Thursday, Dec. 8, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Game 4 a Change, board, card, and interactive games for ages 12 and up will be available to play. Guests are also invited to bring their own games.
  • Monday, Dec. 12, 11:30 a.m., The Children’s Nutcracker, Motion Arts Dance Academy presents selections from the holiday ballet, performed by children.

Police department holding Christmas coloring contest

The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department is holding a coloring contest until Friday, Dec. 9. Coloring pages can be picked up at Nashville Town Hall, 200 Commercial St.

Entries must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Dec. 9 to the NPD contest box located in the Nashville Town Hall, 200 Commercial St.

Age groups are as follows:

Group 1: 5 Years and younger

Group 2: 6 to 7 years old

Group 3: 8 to 9 years old

Group 4: 10 to 11 years old

Group 5: 12 to 13 years old

Group 6: 14 to 18 years old

One prize will be given for each age group and the NPD will deliver the prize to the winner of each age group.

Donate goodies for health, living center

All are invited to donate snacks, candies, sugar free items and signed Christmas Cards for the residents at Brown County Health and Living.

Items can be brought until Dec. 20 to the Brown County Assessor’s Office, 201 Locust Lane, who will take them to be distributed to the residents.

Become a foster grandparent

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors are currently looking for foster grandparents for children.

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors work with public and faith-based schools, Head Start Centers and youth serving facilities in five counties, including Brown, being role models, mentors, tutors and friends.

Bible studies ongoing in county

South Central Indiana Christian Men’s Fellowship, Dec. 6 at Hilltop Christian Camp, 6014 S Hamilton Creek Rd, Meal at 6:30 p.m., Meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m., Theme: Following Jesus

Community Bible Study meets on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the chapel at Cornerstone Inn, 54 E. Franklin St.

They will study Job 1 and 2, Peter, Colossians and James.

After individual study during the week, the group will gather for a group discussion, a teaching and commentary.

LEAP applications are now open

Applications are currently open for the 2022-2023 Brown County Leadership Education Adventure Program (LEAP) cohort. The program will begin in October 2022 and continue through April 2023.

LEAP develops leadership skills, creates a network for the study of community issues and allows participants to learn the needs of the Brown County community.

Applications can be picked up at the Career Resource Center, the Brown County Music Center or the Brown County Visitors Center.

Project Lifesaver applications open

TRIAD and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department have announced that applications are now open for Project Lifesaver.

Those with loved ones at risk of wandering would obtain a personalized wrist-watch sized radio transmitter fitted to their wrist that would be used to locate them if they go missing.

This program is available to any Brown County resident due to a grant support from the Brown County Community Foundation and its partners.

Grants available for septic, well repairs

The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership Decentralized Water Systems program recently announced the availability of grants for water well, in-home water treatment and septic system repairs.

The maximum loan amount is $15,000 with a 1% interest rate. The maturity may not exceed 20 years and will depend on repayment ability.

To be eligible for the grant, the applicant’s household income cannot exceed $33,470. In addition, applicants must own and occupy the home or be in the process of purchasing the home for occupancy. New home construction and community water systems are not eligible.
