Club news for week of Nov. 29

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Seasons Lodge in the Fireplace Lounge, 560 State Road 46 East.

Assistant Chief Dave Frensemeier and Chief Arlan Pierce will be the guest speakers. They will discuss the volunteer fire service and answer any questions the audience may have.

The Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department is located in Gatesville and serves the northeast corner of Brown County, minus Cordry-Sweetwater. It consists of 18 professionals who provide fire protection and emergency response services to the Nineveh community. The fire department’s mission is to prevent loss of life and property.

In addition to responding to fires, the Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Department also responds to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, rescue calls and incidents involving hazardous materials.

Frensemeier has been a member of the Hamblen Township Fire Department for 20 years. He is also a paramedic at IU Health LifeLine and has studied paramedicine at Ivy Tech Madison, advanced EMT at Pelham Training, Inc. and EMT training at Ivy Tech Community College. He lives in Sprunica with his wife Patty Frensemeier.

Chief Pierce lives in Cordry-Sweetwater with his wife Karen. He has served in the volunteer fire service for almost 40 years, most of that time with the Hamblen Township Fire Department. As the chief he has grown the department from a small garage at the end of Salt Creek Road to a fully functioning district capable of tackling any emergency that may arise.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to our community, are invited to attend. You may join us via Zoom using a link obtained by visiting www.RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and clicking on the “Contact us” URL.
