HOLIDAYS IN BROWN: Light parade, Christkindl Market, Friendly Forest and more

Christkindl Market

The Brown County Christkindl Market will return this weekend for its second year, from Dec. 2 through Dec. 4 at Coachlight Square, 211 S. Van Buren St.

The event brings a traditional European holiday market full of gifts, family-friendly entertainment and Christmas spirit.

There will be decorated booths, live music, a tree lighting, Santa and Mrs. Clause and a traditional Christkindl Market Angel.

The schedule for the event is noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Holiday Light Parade & Toy Drive

A variety of unique and brightly lit floats will travel through the village of Nashville at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 collecting toy donations for Brown County families.

Friendly Forest Winter Wonderland

Jackson Township Fire Department, 4831 Helmsburg Road, will host Friendly Forest: Winter Wonderland on Friday, Dec. 2 and 9 and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 10, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Friendly Forest: Winter Wonderland is full of bright lights, blow up characters and holiday music.

Santa will also be present for pictures and treats. The event is free, food is available for purchase and donations are welcome.

Children’s Christmas Benefit Auction

The annual Children’s Christmas Benefit Auction returns at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 East.

Proceeds from the auction items ensure that Brown County families in need have a new item of clothing for Christmas. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Christmas Carol

The Brown County Playhouse, 70 S Van Buren St., will show the Dickensian Christmas tale on Fridays, Dec. 2, 9, and 16 and Saturdays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17, at 7:30 on Sundays, Dec. 4 and 11, at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25, and concessions are available for purchase in the auditorium.

Santa Train

See Santa Claus riding through Helmsburg on his very own Indiana Rail Road express train at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2.

Other holiday characters will be present outside entertaining children as well.

The Santa Train will make a stop in Helmsburg, at Helmsburg Road and State Road 45 from 8 to 9:15 p.m.

Wreaths and Cocktails

Hard Truth Hills, 418 Old State Road 46, will host a Wreaths and Cocktails class to allow guests to create their own holiday wreath using preserved greens and dried fruits with personal instruction from a professional florist. Each guest will receive a complimentary Hard Truth cocktail and hors d’oeuvres.

The workshop will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 2 to 4 p.m., 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Reindeer Romp 5K/8K

Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to the annual Reindeer Romp at Brown County State Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The event is an 8K run or a 5K run/walk, starting and finishing at the Brown County State Park Nature Center.

Christmas In Antique Alley

The third annual Christmas in Antique Alley will be on Saturday, Dec. 3 from noon to 4 p.m.

Festivities in the courtyard will range from live Christmas music provided by Indy Crossbones, a trombone quartet out of Indianapolis, a meet and greet with Santa Claus, as well as miniature donkeys.

Antique Alley is located 75 S. Jefferson St.

Winter Wine Market

The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail will host the Uplands Winter Wine Market on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Brown County Art Gallery, 1 Artist Drive, from 1 to 5 p.m.

There will be wine tasting from all 9 wineries on the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail and gifts available for purchase, all while browsing the art in the gallery.

Each ticket is $25 and includes wine tasting at each winery, a souvenir glass and a reusable 6-bottle wine tote. The tasting accompaniment tray includes crackers, cheese and more for $5.

Steele’s Country Christmas

Celebrate the holiday season with an open house in the Large Studio and at the House of the Singing Winds, T.C. Steele Historic Site, 4220 T.C. Steele Road, during an annual Christmas program on Sunday, Dec. 4, from noon to 4 p.m.

Visitors will be welcomed into the fully decorated house and studio to catch a glimpse of the Indiana of the 1920s.

Opportunities for photos with St. Nick and Belsnickel, refreshments, holiday music and crafts are all part of this afternoon open house. Tickets are required and can be purchased in advance or at the door.

Police department holding Christmas coloring contest

The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department is holding a coloring contest until Friday, Dec. 9. Coloring pages can be picked up at Nashville Town Hall, 200 Commercial St.

Entries must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Dec. 9 to the NPD contest box located in the Nashville Town Hall, 200 Commercial St.

Age groups are as follows:

Group 1: 5 Years and younger

Group 2: 6 to 7 years old

Group 3: 8 to 9 years old

Group 4: 10 to 11 years old

Group 5: 12 to 13 years old

Group 6: 14 to 18 years old

One prize will be given for each age group and the NPD will deliver the prize to the winner of each age group.

Victorian candlelit dinner

Story Inn, 6404 State Road 135 South, will offer holiday candlelight dining experiences that will take guests back to 1851, at the height of the reign of England’s Queen Victoria.

The dinners are Fridays and Saturdays through December at 5 and 7:30 p.m.

Donate goodies for health, living center

All are invited to donate snacks, candies, sugar free items and signed Christmas Cards for the residents at Brown County Health and Living.

Items can be brought until Tuesday, Dec. 20 to the Brown County Assessor’s Office, 201 Locust Lane, who will take them to be distributed to the residents.
