David L. Weddle

David L. Weddle, age 79 passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, Dec. 6, 2022 at his home in Helmsburg. He was a life-long resident of Brown County.

David was born Dec. 16, 1942 in Brown County, to his parents, the late Clarence A. and Goldie E. (Richards) Weddle. He attended Helmsburg High School.

David retired in 1991 as a Millwright for International Harvester/Navistar in Indianapolis after 30 years of service. He served on the Board of Directors of the Brown County Water Utility for over 12 years and has been the Sexton for Bear Creek Cemetery in Brown County for over 30 years. David was a member of the Nashville Masonic Lodge Post #135, Murat Shriner’s and the United Auto Workers Union Local #933 in Indianapolis. He enjoyed raising cattle on his family farm, hanging out and solving the world’s problems in his garage with family and friends. David also enjoyed being outdoors and tending to his vegetable garden. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends for his quick wit and sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Harrietta (Fetrow) Weddle; whom he married on Nov. 12, 1960 in Unionville. David is also survived by his children; Jeff (Shelly) Weddle of Trafalgar, Walter ‘Pudgie’ Weddle of Helmsburg and Robert (Mindy) Weddle of Brown County; sister, Ruth Cody of Brown County; grandchildren, Isaac Weddle and Andy Weddle both of Brown County; Muff Cody and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; son, Greg Weddle; nephew, C. Marvin ‘Junior’ Cody.

Pastor Ken Smith will conduct a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12 at the Bear Creek Cemetery in Brown County. Friends and family may call on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
