Brown County Schools performing winter concerts

The community is invited to concerts supporting Brown County Schools this week.

Brown County School bands will perform together at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Brown County High School auditorium, 235 Schoolhouse Lane.

The Brown County Middle School choir will perform at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at the middle school.

Both concerts are free to the public.

Support local food pantry through law enforcement

Starting Monday, Dec. 12 the Brown County Sheriff’s Office will be collecting nonperishable food items and children’s snacks to benefit the Brown County Mother’s Cupboard.

Donations may be dropped off in the lobby of the Brown County Sheriff’s Department, 55 State Road 46 East, through Friday, Dec. 17.

Upcoming events planned at library

The Brown County Public Library, 205 Locust Lane, will host several events in December for all ages.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 10:30 a.m., Pre-K Days: Words and Wiggles, Creative movement and dance followed by open play time. For kids ages 0-6. Registration requested.

Wednesday, Dec. 14 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., ATLAS (At the Library After School), Hang out time, games, crafts and snacks for kids in grades 6-12.

Thursday, Dec. 15, 6 to 7 p.m., Family Game Night, Play board games, card games and more. For kids in grades K – 8 with their families. Registration requested.

Friday, Dec. 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Brown County Library, Homeschool Huddle: Service Learning and Winter Celebrations, Activities for kids and networking for adults. Open to all homeschool families. Registration requested.

Monday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m., Monday Morning Storytime, Join Miss Samantha for the last Storytime of 2022. Kids age 6 and under can enjoy stories, songs, rhymes and crafts.

Monday, Dec. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m., Lego Club, Drop in and show off your Lego skills and collaborate with other Lego builders.

Dec. 12 through 29, 12 Days of December. Drop in for a new self-guided seasonal craft and reading recommendations for all ages, every day for 12 days. All materials and tools will be provided, while supplies last.

The library will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26 for the Christmas Holiday.

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors are currently looking for foster grandparents for children.

Thrive Alliance and AmeriCorps Seniors work with public and faith-based schools, Head Start Centers and youth serving facilities in five counties, including Brown, being role models, mentors, tutors and friends.

Bible studies ongoing in county

Community Bible Study meets on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the chapel at Cornerstone Inn, 54 E. Franklin St.

They will study Job 1 and 2, Peter, Colossians and James.

After individual study during the week, the group will gather for a group discussion, a teaching and commentary.

LEAP applications are now open

Applications are currently open for the 2022-2023 Brown County Leadership Education Adventure Program (LEAP) cohort. The program will begin in October 2022 and continue through April 2023.

LEAP develops leadership skills, creates a network for the study of community issues and allows participants to learn the needs of the Brown County community.

Applications can be picked up at the Career Resource Center, the Brown County Music Center or the Brown County Visitors Center.

Project Lifesaver applications open

TRIAD and the Brown County Sheriff’s Department have announced that applications are now open for Project Lifesaver.

Those with loved ones at risk of wandering would obtain a personalized wrist-watch sized radio transmitter fitted to their wrist that would be used to locate them if they go missing.

This program is available to any Brown County resident due to a grant support from the Brown County Community Foundation and its partners.

Grants available for septic, well repairs

The Great Lakes Community Action Partnership Decentralized Water Systems program recently announced the availability of grants for water well, in-home water treatment and septic system repairs.

The maximum loan amount is $15,000 with a 1% interest rate. The maturity may not exceed 20 years and will depend on repayment ability.

To be eligible for the grant, the applicant’s household income cannot exceed $33,470. In addition, applicants must own and occupy the home or be in the process of purchasing the home for occupancy. New home construction and community water systems are not eligible.
