Club news for week of Jan. 3

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet over Zoom at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jan 5.

The guest speaker will be Warren Sargent, who is production manager/technical director and member of the board of directors of the Brown County Playhouse.

He will discuss the history of the Playhouse, its travails through and emergence from the COVID pandemic, and plans for its future growth.

While growing up, Sargent learned technical theater while working at a Disciples of Christ church at which his father was pastor. He completed a 16-month course of paramedic training at Methodist Hospitals that teaches advanced patient assessment techniques and lifesaving invasive procedures in accordance with the National Registry. Techniques and procedures including intubation, I.V./I.O, medication administration, advanced airway techniques and the latest in pediatric and advanced cardiac life support. He continued to work part time in the technical production field while working full time for over 35 years as a firefighter and paramedic, the last 20 years at the City of Lawrence Fire Department in Lawrence, Ind. Sargent retired from the fire service in March of 2021.

Woodworkers club

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Brown County Library, 205 Locust Lane. Josh Harris will demonstrate a 3D printer.

Veterans organizations

Veterans service organizations of Brown County have various meetings throughout the month, all meeting at the Veterans Hall, 902 Deer Run Lane. The Veterans Hall is a government facility and is alcohol free.

Vietnam Veterans of Brown County meet on first Wednesdays.

Veterans of Foreign Wars meet on second Thursdays.

American Legion meets on third Wednesdays.

American Legion Riders (ALR) Group meets on second Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

Brown County Parks and Recreation is currently seeking additional players for its Bridge Club and Euchre Club. Those interested should contact parks and rec at 812-988-5522.

Bluebird club

The Brown County Bluebird Club is again offering fully assembled cedar bluebird nest boxes for $15 each or two for $25. If interested, call Dan Sparks at 812-200-5700.
