American Legion sponsoring free showing of Korean War film

The Brown County American Legion Post 13 and Bald Eagles Aviation History group have partnered to bring a free screening of “Devotion” at the Brown County Playhouse.

The free show is a Saturday matinee at 2:30 p.m. at the playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren Street.

The film features the inspirational true story of Jesse Brown, the first Black aviator in U.S. Navy history, and his enduring friendship with fellow fighter pilot Tom Hudner.

Helping to turn the tide in the most brutal battle in the Korean War, their sacrifices ultimately make them the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen.

“That true story is just an amazing story,” American Legion Commander Keith Baker said.

“It’s just a neat story we want the community to see.”

Can’t make it Saturday afternoon?

There are three more showings set for the weekend: Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for those shows are $7. Concessions, drinks, beer, wine and more are served in the auditorium.
