Submit work for artists exhibition
Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch (R) and the Indiana Arts Commission has announced details for the 2023 Hoosier Women Artists Exhibition and began accepting submissions.
“Every year I look forward to showcasing the work of talented Hoosier women in my office and across the Statehouse,” Lt. Gov. Crouch said.
“I am excited to see what unique pieces are submitted this year and to celebrate the artists behind them.”
Established in 2008, the Hoosier Women Artists Exhibition celebrates the importance of art and creativity in Hoosier communities and highlights the work of talented female artists throughout Indiana. Selected designees will have their artwork displayed in the offices of female elected officials at the Indiana Statehouse and at the Governor’s Residence.
Submissions are open from Monday, Jan. 9 to Friday, Feb. 3 and can be made through the Indiana Arts Commission’s Online Application System.
A reception will be held March 29 at the Indiana Statehouse to honor and showcase the selected artists.

Auditions open at playhouse
All are welcome to audition for an upcoming family show at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St.
Director Susan Rardin is holding auditions for the family comedy, “Over the River and Through the Woods.” Auditions will be Sunday, Feb. 12 and Monday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. at the playhouse.
Needed roles are: two men, ages 60 to 80, two women ages 60 to 80, one man age 20 to 40 and one woman age 20 to 40. Those auditioning will read from the script.
Production dates are April 7 and 8 and 14 through 16.

Apply for guild’s annual exhibition
The Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St. will host its Annual Patron &Young Artist Exhibition from Jan. 21 through Feb. 18, 2023.
Artists 18 years of age and older are welcome to enter up to two submissions. The cost is $40 for the first submission, and includes a one-year membership to the guild. There is a discounted fee of $20 for an optional second submission.
Artists 17 years of age and younger may enter up to two framed submissions at no cost.
Prizes will be awarded in both divisions.
Guild artist Jeff Hagen will be the judge.
There will be an awards and artist reception on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m., with awards presented at 3 p.m.

Playhouse featuring many shows in 2023
The Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St., will welcome numerous acts in its upcoming season.
The Maltese Falcon Radio Play will be Friday and Saturday, Feb. 3 and 4, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.
Detective Sam Spade gets more than he bargained for when he takes a case brought to him by a beautiful but secretive woman. As soon as Miss Wonderly shows up, trouble follows as Sam’s partner is murdered and Sam is accosted by a man demanding he locate a valuable statuette. Sam, entangled in a dangerous web of crime and intrigue, soon realizes he must find the one thing they all seem to want: the bejeweled Maltese Falcon.
On Friday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Greg Hahn with Dave “The King” Wilson will make their way to the playhouse stage. Tickets are $20.
Greg Hahn, a comedian has “parlayed his absurdly energetic, all out style of physical humor, one liners and crowd work into a performance of immediate pandemonium and continuous laughs,” according to the playhouse website. His unique stylings have led to numerous television, corporate and theater appearances throughout the US and Canada.
Musician Henry Lee Summer will perform on Saturday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15.
Summer, a Brazil, Ind. native, is self-taught on guitar, piano, and drums influenced by the best in country, R&B, rock &roll, and blues.
Tab Benoit with special guest JD Simo will perform on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $45.
Benoit recently launched his own imprint, Whiskey Bayou Records, with partner and manager, Rueben Williams. The label has thus far released albums by such established artists as Eric McFadden, Damon Fowler, Eric Johanson, Jeff McCarty, and Dash Rip Rock. In 2019 Benoit hits the road for a major U.S. Tour, the Whiskey Bayou Revue, featuring Benoit and several of his label’s artists.
On Friday, Feb. 24, Chris Collins and Boulder Canyon will present “The Music of John Denver.” The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
With similarities between their voices, award-winning singer-songwriter Chris Collins brings energy and enthusiasm to the stage that was a hallmark of a John Denver performance.
Hailed as outstanding tribute artists for their authenticity and musical style, Chris Collins and Boulder Canyon have been receiving much acclaim from audiences in theaters, venues and concert halls everywhere they perform.
E5C4P3: The Music Of Journey will be Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20.
The band covers the music with a note-for-note accuracy that is second to none and performs each show with the high-energy excitement of a real Journey concert as well as visually recreating the essence of early 1980s Journey. Focusing on the “Steve Perry era,” E5C4P3 covers all the hits from “Lights” and “Wheel In The Sky” to “Separate Ways” and “Be Good To Yourself,” including occasional surprises for all the die-hard Journey fans.

Music center scheduling many shows in first quarter
The Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Blvd., will welcome a variety of shows to the stage in 2023.
The music center will welcome “Weird Al” Yankovic at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3.
“Weird Al” Yankovic burst onto the scene over three decades ago and never looked back. For the second time in his storied career, the world’s foremost musical satirist and five-time Grammy winner foregoes his usual high-octane, big-production show for an intimate evening of music, focusing on original songs from his 14-album catalog.
The music center will welcome Josh Turner with special guest JD Clayton at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9.
For nearly two decades, Turner has been one of country music’s most recognizable voices, selling more than 8.5 million units and amassing more than 2.5 billion global streams. He has never kept his reverence for traditional country music a secret, but, with this latest album, Country State of Mind, Josh Turner is a country music fan first and foremost.
The music center will welcome Dave Mason at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17.
Mason has penned over 100 songs, has three Gold albums: Alone Together, Dave Mason, Mariposa De Oro and platinum album Let It Flow, which contained the Top 10 single “We Just Disagree.” In addition to cranking out hits, Dave has performed on, or contributed to, a number of famous albums, including: The Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet, George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass, Paul McCartney and Wings’ Venus and Mars, and Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland.
The music center will welcome Dailey &Vincent at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent (and their world-class band) offer a unique and modernized spin on “American music” — “the best of country, bluegrass and gospel this side of heaven,” according to USA Today. The duo has played across the globe, taking the stage at iconic venues including the Ryman Auditorium and Carnegie Hall.
