Club news for week of Jan. 31

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club will meet over Zoom at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2. The guest speaker will be Capt. Vinal Lee, Pastor and Director of The Salvation Army in Bloomington and Brown County, who will discuss the ministries of The Salvation Army, its recent fundraising campaign, and its vision for the current year.

The Salvation Army pursues both a Christian spiritual ministry and a secular corporal ministry. In the latter, Capt. Lee, and his wife Capt. Brenna Lee, focus on issues of addiction, homelessness, and human trafficking. Capt. Lee has extensive training and experience in emergency preparedness, disaster response, community and public relations, social media, mental health, leadership, and supervision.

Capt. Lee’s Salvation Army journey began with a group of friends and a skateboard. On a Friday night in Omaha, Neb., 13-year-old Vinal and his friends went skateboarding at the indoor skatepark at their local Corps. After seeing a sign that read, “Chapel”, he asked his parents if they could attend the service on Sunday, with the intention of continuing to skateboard with his friends. Little did he know just how much his involvement in the church would continue to grow. He was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in 2015 and has served as a Pastor and Director with The Salvation Army throughout the state of Indiana for nearly a decade. The Salvation Army has maintained a presence in Bloomington for over one hundred years, since 1907.

Members of the community, especially those interested in exploring opportunities to participate in projects and to be of service to our community, are invited to attend. You can join us via Zoom using a link obtained by visiting www.RotaryClubofBrownCounty.org and clicking on the “Contact us” URL.
