NEW ON THE FORCE: Officer Q&A with Frensemeier

Editor’s note: We have been introducing new officers who have been sworn into the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. This is the final installment of officer introductions.

Derek Frensemeier

Age? 33

Are you married? Not married, two kids — my son Chris is 11 and my daughter Harper is 6.

Where did you grow up and/or where do you consider yourself to be from? Columbus/Greensburg area.

What is your education? High school.

What is your law enforcement experience? I am new to law enforcement. But I’m excited to join and grow with fine group/family Brown County has.

What did you do before this? Six years Marine Corps three years with 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, three years Marine Corps Logistics Command and a short time with School of Infantry-West and then eight years diesel mechanic with Cummins.

Why did you choose law enforcement? I can make a difference by helping and connecting with the people of Brown County.

What’s the best part about being a police officer? Being what the people can count on and being able to help those in need.

What’s one of the most difficult parts of the job? Right now, it would have to be the fact I am new, and I do not want to let the people of Brown County down.

What are you looking forward to in your new role? Growing and learning the community. The community has so many things to offer and we can’t forget amazing group of first responders that I get to work with.
