TALENT ON DISPLAY: Local artists take home awards for guild’s patron, youth exhibit; reception next weekend — PHOTOS

The Brown County Art Guild announced the winners of the 2023 Patron and Young Artist Annual Exhibition that has been taking place since Jan. 21.

In the patron awards, Rose Brenner took home Best of Show for “November Morn,” an oil painting.

First place was awarded to Shirley Woolard for her watercolor, “The Horse’s Tale,” second place to Brenda Whicker for oil painting, “Le Gourdon Blue,” and third place to Pamela Keech for a collage titled, “Two Men &An Angel.”

Leslie Haflich received an honorable mention for “Joy In The Garden,” an oil painting.

Distinction of Merit awards were also given to patron artists: Tom Brown for pencil drawing, “Peaceful Stream”; Sam Thompson for digital art, “Enlighten”; Leanne Marchand for oil painting, “Cabin Fare”; Tim Lewis for watercolor, “Crab Bounty.”

Best of Show for the Young Artist awards was given to Peyton Rash for graphite piece, “Self Love.”

First place was awarded to Josie Astafan for colored pencil piece, “Into The Unknown,” second place to Elizabeth Rexroat for “Lost In A Dream,” a mixed media and third place to Meilynn Hess for a pencil drawing titled, “My Grandpa Circa 1950.”

Adalyn Summer received an honorable mention for a digital art piece titled, “Car In The Park.”

A Distinction of Merit award was given to Joshua Harrison for “Sorrowful Cat,” a pencil drawing.

More than 70 art pieces from 51 participants were submitted for the exhibition. All pieces were judged by local artist and guild member Jeff Hagen.

An artist and awards reception will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. with awards presented at 3:00 p.m.
