Driver’s passing the local Speedway gas station this weekend may have seen its front entrance receiving some repairs after a driver crashed into the building in the early hours of Sunday morning.

On March 26 at approximately 3:15 a.m. Brown County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a vehicle had driven through the front entrance of the Speedway gas station on South Van Buren Street.

According to a press release from the Nashville Police Department (NPD) the caller was a Speedway employee who informed dispatch that the vehicle was sitting inside of the store and there was a fire.

An NPD officer and deputies from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene approximately one minute later.

The NPD officer reported that upon his arrival he observed a vehicle sitting inside of the front entrance with extensive damage to the entry-way of the building. He also observed an article of clothing on top of the car which was on fire.

While going to the rear of his patrol vehicle to retrieve a fire extinguisher, the Speedway employee was already extinguishing the flames. Officers on scene then entered the building and informed the employee and a woman present to exit the building.

A sheriff’s deputy reportedly began speaking with the woman, who was later identified as the driver of the vehicle.

That female’s identity will not be released at this time, according to the press release.

Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department also arrived on scene and began locating and assisting with shutting off all surrounding utilities including gas lines, water lines and power.

According to the press release, the woman told officers on scene that she had intentionally started a fire inside of her vehicle, she then backed her vehicle into a fuel pump before driving it through the main entrance of the building.

After speaking with law enforcement on scene the woman agreed to be transported to a neighboring county hospital on her own accord for a mental health evaluation and treatment.

An affidavit search warrant for a toxicology test was granted by the Brown County Circuit Court and results are pending.

The investigation is ongoing and charges have not yet been filed. Speedway will be temporarily closed while repairs are made.
