A lot of us can remember back to those spring days when we were in school. The weather had finally turned and snow was no longer being talked about. Recess meant time to play outside again. And somewhere along the way, we got introduced to a sport that was all about running and jumping.
Earlier this month, elementary students from Sprunica, Helmsburg and Van Buren met at the high school track for an evening of running and jumping — and fun.
Little ones in kindergarten and first grade ran in a 50-meter dash while grades two through five took part in races from 100 to 800 meters and competitions like the long jump and softball throw.
No team scores were kept, although announcer Shane Killinger recognized the top three in each event.
It was an evening of fun, laughs and smiles.
