With the Highest Distinction: This year’s Summa Cum Laude Graduates

Summa Cum Laude — a Latin phrase meaning with the highest distinction. Well, that’s exactly the description that fits a dozen Brown County High School graduating seniors. The 12 have proven through their actions in the school to be worthy of the highest distinction.

Conner Henderson

The son of Paul and Kristina Henderson, Conner Henderson is graduating Summa Cum Laude. Conner Henderson has been involved in theater for 3 years, 1 of tech and 2 of acting respectively. He has also been involved in each of the band programs this year including concert, jazz, and marching band. After school, he will attend Ball State University for a degree in Music Media Production with a concentration in commercial music design and a double minor in both Composition and Jazz Studies.

Laura Prevot

The daughter of Lonnie Prevot and Huyen Tran, Laura Prevot is graduating Summa Cum Laude. She played Volleyball freshman year on the C-team. She participated in national history day and made it through regionals. She has worked at Hobnob since the second semester of her senior year. After high school she will attend Indiana University studying Political Science to later become a corporate attorney.

Braxton Huff

Braxton Huff is the son of Casey Huff and Randy Huff. Braxton has been a part of Eagle Manufacturing since his junior year. As of this year he is now the current Graphics Manager. He is also a member of History Club and Spanish Honor Society. After high school, he plans to attend The University of Southern Indiana to study computer science and pursue a career in software development.

Cadence Kemp

Cady Kemp, the daughter of Dale Kemp and Roxanne Kemp is graduating Summa Cum Laude. She has been heavily involved with the athletic community through playing volleyball, basketball, and tennis for 4 years. She has been involved in the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society. She plans to attend the University of Southern Indiana in the fall majoring in nursing.

Anna Tipton

The daughter of Nate and Gretchen Tipton, Anna Tipton is graduating Summa Cum Laude. Anna has been a part of basketball, soccer, and tennis for 4 years. She has also participated in history club, student council, national honor society, and science honor society. After high school she will attend Indiana University to be a teacher.

Marqi Satter

Marqi Satter is the daughter of Matt and Kelly Satter. Marqi has worked at a local coffee shop, Common Grounds, for two years. She has played volleyball all four years of high school, has been in History club for three years, Interact club for two years, Science Honor Society for two years, Governors Work Ethic for one year, and National Honor Society for two years. This past year Marqi has been Student Council President and has been in student council for three years. She is also a ten year 4H member and is a board member at Mother’s Cupboard. In the fall, Marqi plans on attending Indiana University to major in Dietetics.

Madelyne Huff

The daughter of Casey Huff and Randy Huff, Maddie Huff is graduating Summa Cum Laude. Maddie has been a part of Eagle Manufacturing for the past year and will continue into the summer internship program. She played varsity basketball for 4 years and softball for a year. Additionally, Maddie is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Student Council, History Club, Science Honor Society, and National Honor Society. After high school, she will attend USI to study Biochemistry to later go into the medical field.

Lynsey Summers

Lynsey Summers, the daughter of Troy and Mindy Summers, is graduating Summa Cum Laude. She is active in many clubs including History club, National Honors Society, Science Honors Society, and Student Council. Lynsey is a four-year varsity softball athlete and received the Superintendent’s award her junior year. She has received honor roll all four years and will be attending Ball State to pursue a degree in nursing.

Isabelle Gordon

Isabelle Gordon, the daughter of Lynda England and Warren England is graduating summa cum laude. Isabelle is a member of science honors society. She has played two years of tennis and managed one year of girls soccer. She has participated in one year of history club and student council. After graduating she will attend Butler University to double major in biology and kinesiology, to eventually work as a physical therapist.

Kayleigh Austin

The daughter of Trent and Mandy Austin, Livie Austin is graduating Summa Cum Laude. Livie is the President of National Honor Society and served as Historian during her junior year. She managed cross country her freshman year, ran cross country from sophomore to senior year, and ran track all four years of high school. She worked at The Nashville House during her freshman year and has worked at The Wild Olive from her sophomore to senior year. Additionally, Livie is a member of Student Council, Spanish Honor Society, and History Club. She was awarded the Superintendent’s Award during her junior and senior cross country seasons. She also received Academic All-State Honorable Mention twice. After high school, she will attend the University of Mississippi to study political science with the intent to attend law school.

Julia Burt

Julia Burt, the daughter of Michael and Jennifer Burt is graduating Summa Cum Laude. Julia was a captain of the girl’s soccer team, played varsity for 4 years, and received an all-conference award. She has also played varsity tennis for 4 years and hopes to win sections this year. Julia serves as the Vice President of National Honors Society and is a member of both National Science and Spanish Honors Society. During her high school career, she has taken 11 AP classes and is especially proud of passing AP Chemistry. Julia has worked as a baker and kitchen prep chef at Feast Market & Cellar for 3 years and recently started a small family business at the local farmers market. After high school, she will attend Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to study Civil Engineering.

Elijah Webb

Eli Webb, the son of Michael and Jennifer Webb, is graduating Summa Cum Laude. Eli has been on the track and soccer teams since sophmore year and was a captain on the soccer team for his senior year. He has worked at the Crystal Source since sophomore year and Webb and Sons Auto since junior year. Eli is a member of the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society as well as a board member of the Mother’s Cupboard Community Kitchen. After high school Eli will attend Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to study mechanical engineering and will pursue a job as a mechanical engineer.

Ely Wesley

The son of Amanda and Jeff Wesley, Ely Wesley is graduating Summa Cum Laude. Ely was a member of the marching band, pep band, and concert band for 4 years. He played soccer for 4 years and did winter guard for 3 years. Ely achieved perfect attendance for 4 years at BCHS and also was awarded his Eagle Scout during his time in high school. Ely plans to attend Indiana University after graduation and major in computer science.
