Annette Gevarter-Keefe, age 93, of Nashville Indiana passed peacefully on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024. Annette was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Annette enjoyed a full life as wife, mother, singer, and innkeeper. Annette was an active and charming woman who enjoyed cooking, reading, theater and traveling adventures across the globe. She was especially fond of animals, always had one or more pets and supported her local humane society.

Annette’s had an exciting singing career that began at the age of seventeen within the Scranton Civic Opera Society. She loved both classical, theater and opera music and made her mark as a Soprano Soloist. After moving to Washington, D.C., Annette was highly active in music circles. She performed in leading roles in over a dozen operas and dinner theaters from 1952 through 1978. She appeared on a TV show as the featured singer in 1955-‘56. Another key highlight of her career, she appeared as soloist at the White House for President Eisenhower, at his request and also for President Johnson. Later in her career she performed as a soloist in several Washington, D.C. churches.

Annette raised four children. Together with her husband, William Gevarter, established a Bed &Breakfast in Northern California’s wine country. Annette operated the bed &breakfast for over 20 years. After the death of her second husband, Annette married Jack Keefe in 2001. In 2010, Annette moved to Bloomington, Indiana to be close to her daughters and grandchildren.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, her husbands, Ernest May of Washington, D.C, William Gevarter of California, and Jack Keefe of California, and her daughter, Jeanne May of Nashville, Indiana. Annette is survived by her daughters Marilyn Cornish of Maryland and Julie Milloy of Nashville, Indiana, her son Ernest H May of Virginia, her sister Marilyn Otterstein of Maine, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The date for a celebration of life has not been determined at this time.
