Brownie: Where’s Brownie?

Say there, looking for me?

Well Doll, I’m right here. Haven’t gone anywhere, except to the hat shop to fetch me a snappy new fedora. A P.I. always has to have a few things you know — a swell fedora, a heater in the pocket and a pack of Luckies.

I’m all set.

It’s been a while but this week I got a letter from Mary Jane Richards in Morgantown. Thanks, sweetheart for reaching out. She wrote:

My question for Ask Brownie — where’s Brownie? I look for this every week in the Democrat — trust you and staff doing well. I’m sure you are few in numbers and that makes pressure for all. Don’t give up. Our county needs this weekly news!

Give up? C’mon Mary Jane — you know better than that. There’s no quit in Brownie or any one of the good folks here at your favorite Brown County weekly. And our parent company? Well, they’re tops, too. From everything we hear, they love Brown County and ol’ Brownie thinks it safe to say we ain’t going anywhere.

As for few in numbers, well weekly newspapers are always that way — and we like that just fine. What’s Effie tell me all the time — too many cooks spoil the broth. We’ve got just the right amount of hard-working dedicated folks who love putting out a paper for you every week.

Finally, back to your question. Where am I? Well, do you remember back in the ’90s a funny little man with big ears who ran for president? Ross Perot used to say I’m Ross and you’re the boss. Well, that’s me baby. I’m Brownie and you’re … uh … OK, can’t think of a rhyme for that but you guys are the boss. Ask me a question and I’m on the case. Thing is, no one’s been asking lately, so I got no case to dive into.

If you want to put me to work, then email or snail mail. As soon as I get it, I’ll don the shoulder holster, snap the brim of the hat and I’m off. The email is [email protected] and the USPS address is Ask Brownie c/o the Brown County Democrat 147 E. Main, Nashville 47448.

Thanks Mary Jane — and everyone reading! Can’t wait to hear from you!
