Hickory Ridge Community Center
The month we celebrate our country’s independence, which means summer is in full swing! So, if you want to come out and support the Community Center in July here is what is on the calendar:
7/18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: The Brown County Health Department nurse will visit for a health check. After that there will be a potluck and a few hands of cards.
7/18, 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m.: Committee meeting to plan for September Founders’ Day Community Event
7/20, 8 a.m.-11 a.m.: Monthly fundraiser breakfast at the center, $6 adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Donations help keep us going and are very appreciated!
7/22, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.: Hamblen Township Civic League board meeting. Feel free to join us!
7/25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: The Seniors will have a potluck, play some cards, and take a walk around the track.
We want to thank all those supporters of our breakfast and Live music/food fundraisers, we truly appreciate all your support!
When the center isn’t rented for an event, the playgrounds, walking track, and horseshoe pits (bring your own shoes) are available for use by the community. Lil’s Summer Reading Program, Tuesdays, July 16 · 10:30 a.m., Drop in for special summer stories, songs, rhymes and movement with Miss Samantha, then stay and play after story time! For ages 0-4 with their caregivers.

Free Summer Snacks at the Library, Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 11, 16 & 18 · 10-11:30 a.m. and 3-4 p.m., Free snacks will be available to anyone under age 18. Snacks must be eaten at the library. In partnership with Brown County Schools.
Glowing Art, Tuesday, July 16 · 1-3 p.m., Create glow in the dark art, including paintings, glowing constellation jars, and light up circuit art. For ages 18 and under. Registration requested.
For Many Ages
Family Movie Afternoon, Thursday, July 11 · Noon-2 p.m., Drop in for a fun family movie featuring your favorite video game brothers. Visit our website for more details. Everyone is welcome.
Adventures in Embroidery, Friday, July 12 · 3-4:40 p.m., Venture into the world of embroidery and learn a new skill that can be used to decorate clothing, make patches and home decor. All tools and materials supplied. For adults and kids grade 6 and up. Registration requested.
End of Summer Reading Foam Party, Saturday, July 20 · 1-3 p.m., Celebrate your hard work and have some fun this summer! Enjoy ice cream, a glow room, make your own adventure buttons, and a FOAM Party! You should bring: a swimsuit or lightweight clothing, water shoes or back strap sandals, and a towel. All ages are welcome. Registration requested.
Tech Help Thursdays, Thursdays · 2-3 p.m., Drop in any Thursday for basic help with electronic devices and software questions.
For Adults
Dale Glenn Author Visit and Book Signing, Thursday, July 11 · 6 p.m., Join local author Dale Glenn as he discusses his latest novel, Mystic Nights of the Wabash, followed by a book signing. Everyone is welcome. RSVPs encouraged.
Dale Glenn was born in Knox County, Indiana, where his family roots go back to the 1880s, and where this novel takes place. Hailing from a family of educators, he graduated from Indiana University and began his career as an English teacher in a suburban Indianapolis high school. He later became a principal and adjunct professor at Indiana University. Glenn and his wife, Teresa, live in Bloomington, Indiana, among their five adult children.

Book Bike Deliveries
Tuesdays, July 16, 23 & 30 · 11 – 11:50 a.m.
Weekly in-town stops for library book delivery and returns. Meet the Book Bike at one of our outdoor locations in the Salt Creek Plaza area to pick up items placed on hold, return your library books, pick up program schedules or get a library card.
How it works:
Place items on hold through your account on the Library website by noon Monday
Select “Book Bike” as the pickup location
Meet the Book Bike on Tuesdays at one of the outdoor stops

The Brown County History Center and Pioneer Village
The Pioneer Village is open for the summer/fall season. The village will be open 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Tours can be arranged upon request. Call the B.C. History center at 812-988-2899 to make arrangements. The Village is maintained by donations. Come and visit the past.
The History Center is open Tuesdays. Wednesdays. Fridays and Saturdays. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come see all things “Brown County”.
The Archives are open on Tuesdays and Fridays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Special times may be arranged by calling the History Center at (812) 988-2899.
BC Cemetery Preservation Society
The Cemetery Society is planning workdays in our cemeteries for the second Saturday of each month for this year. We welcome anyone to come help. We have lost touch with the past cemetery caretakers and are looking for any information on anyone who has taken over. Keep in touch with our group’s activities on our Facebook page: BC Cemetery Preservation Society or call us at (812) 320-6237. We also have meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the History Center on 90 E. Gould Street at 4:00 p.m. Visitors and interested volunteers are welcome.
BC Cemetery Preservation Society is seeking your help to honor those children and babies who passed before us. Help us by adopting a lamb at $10 or an angel at $20 or $30. Drop your money off to Rhonda Dunn at BC History Center, 90 East Gould St. on Tuesday or Fridays from 1-4 or write a check to Rhonda Dunn or Mandy Wade and mail it to P.O. Brown County Health Department Back-To-School Vaccine Clinic
We will be at the Brown County High School Registration Days on July 31 and Aug. 1. We will also have a Saturday Clinic at the Health Department on Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Beat the rush and get your students vaccinated for the coming school year. The Brown County Health Department Nursing Division vaccinates those without insurance and those on Medicaid and private insurance.

CVB Monthly Meeting Location
The standing location of the monthly CVB meetings held on the third Tuesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. will no longer be in the upstairs conference room at the Visitors Center, it will instead be in the downstairs meeting room of the Cornerstone Inn, unless otherwise announced.
