Brown County Lions Club
The Brown County Lions Club grant season is here! The Lions Club will receive grant applications from organizations to fund special projects, not routine operating expenses. Grant applications must be postmarked not later than July 31, to be considered. Forms can be secured by contacting the Brown County Lions Club, PO Box 716, Nashville IN 47448, or on our Brown County Lions Club Facebook page. The grants committee will review all applications early in July with grants to be awarded in late August or early September. Grant funds are limited, therefore awards will be based on the importance of each project to the betterment of our community.
Lifting Hands, International, Inc.
Sunday, July 28 at 11:15, St. David’s Episcopal Church is pleased to welcome Patrick Petro, Development Director, from Lifting Hands, International, Inc. Mr. Petro will be highlighting the many relief operations that LHI is currently serving. LHI is a non-profit international relief program specializing in immediate insertion and assistance to troubled areas (Gaza, Greece, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Somalia, and many more) with food, water, medicine, clothing, etc.
Because this organization is small, uses almost all volunteers and has numerous international contacts, many times they are the first to provide support in a disaster or war zone. Rated with 4 Stars from Charity Navigator, LHI uses only about 1 cent for every dollar donated as overhead!
If you would like to hear more about Lifting Hands, International, Inc. and the work they do all over the world, please join St. David’s, Bean Blossom, IN after our service on Sunday, July 28 (approximately 11:15 a.m.). We are located five miles north of downtown Nashville at the junction of St. Rd. 46 and St. Rd. 45 in Bean Blossom. All are welcome! Refreshments will be served.
Brown County Recovery and Wellness Coalition: International Overdose Awareness Day
The Brown County Recovery and Wellness Coalition is planning an event for International Overdose Awareness Day. This will be on Saturday, August 31st from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Village Green (this is the pavilion and surrounding area beside Brozinni’s for those not familiar). The event will include free food, information on community resources, a naloxone training, community conversation, and a candlelight vigil. Any community groups/agencies who would like to set up a table with info on community resources are welcome to attend. You can email Cathy Roundtree at [email protected] if you plan to participate.
Hickory Ridge Community Center
The month we celebrate our country’s independence is here which means summer is in full swing! So, if you want to come out and support the Community Center in July here is what is on the calendar:
7/5, 5pm-8pm: Our Harmony Gathering @ Hickory Ridge will have live music and food. Herb Brock & Jack Harden will perform from 6pm to 8pm. Food will be available for purchase from 5pm to 7:30pm. Please come enjoy a leisure Friday evening and get some free vanilla ice cream!
7/18, 10am-2pm: The Brown County Health Department nurse will visit for a health check. After that there will be a potluck and a few hands of cards.
7/18, 5pm-6:30pm: Committee meeting to plan for September Founders’ Day Community Event
7/20, 8am-11am: Monthly fundraiser breakfast at the center, $6 adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Donations help keep us going and are very appreciated!
7/22, 6pm-8pm: Hamblen Township Civic League board meeting. Feel free to join us!
7/25, 10am-2pm: The Seniors will have a potluck, play some cards, and take a walk around the track.

When the center isn’t rented for an event, the playgrounds, walking track, and horseshoe pits (bring your own shoes) are available for use by the community. Ukulele OWLS: Beginning Ukulele for Older, Wiser Learners, Fridays, August 23 – October 25 · 10:30 – 11:30 am, Learn to play the ukulele with instructor Kristin Thompson in a free 10-week workshop series just for adults age 65 and older. Instruments and instruction books will be provided to participants for the duration of the program. Attendance at as many sessions as possible is requested. A performance reception for friends and family will be held on the last date. Visit browncountylibrary.info/ukulele-owls for additional details and registration. Class size is limited to 10. Registration is required., This activity is made possible by the Indiana Arts Commission in partnership with the Family and Social Services Administration.

Weekly in-town stops for library book delivery and returns. Meet the Book Bike at one of our outdoor locations in the Salt Creek Plaza area to pick up items placed on hold, return your library books, pick up program schedules or get a library card.

The Brown County History Center and Pioneer Village
The Pioneer Village is open for the summer/fall season. The village will be open 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Tours can be arranged upon request. Call the B.C. History center at (812) 988-2899 to make arrangements. The Village is maintained by donations. Come and visit the past.
The History Center is open Tuesdays. Wednesdays. Fridays and Saturdays. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come see all things Brown County.
The Archives are open on Tuesdays and Fridays 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Special times may be arranged by calling the History Center at (812) 988-2899.
BC Cemetery Preservation Society
The Cemetery Society is planning workdays in our cemeteries for the second Saturday of each month for this year. We welcome anyone to come help. We have lost touch with the past cemetery caretakers and are looking for any information on anyone who has taken over. We also have meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the History Center on 90 E. Gould Street at 4 p.m. Visitors and interested volunteers are welcome.
BC Cemetery Preservation Society is seeking your help to honor those children and babies who passed before us. Help us by adopting a lamb at $10 or an angel at $20 or $30. Brown County Health Department Back-To-School Vaccine Clinic
We will be at the Brown County High School Registration Days on July 31 and Aug. 1. We will also have a Saturday Clinic at the Health Department on Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Beat the rush and get your students vaccinated for the coming school year. The Brown County Health Department Nursing Division vaccinates those without insurance and those on Medicaid and private insurance.

CVB Monthly Meeting Location
The standing location of the monthly CVB meetings held on the third Tuesday of the month at 8:30 a.m. will no longer be in the upstairs conference room at the Visitors Center, it will instead be in the downstairs meeting room of the Cornerstone Inn, unless otherwise announced.
